We're looking for an HR Policy and Compliance Specialist to shape and oversee our HR risk and compliance landscape. Your role will involve meticulous drafting and continuous refinement of our HR policies, ensuring they're fully aligned with both internal standards and regulatory mandates. You'll manage our HR risk profile, keeping a diligent record of documented risks, controls, and actionable strategies for improvement, while also producing clear and impactful risk related reporting for stakeholders both within and beyond our organization.

Accountabilities

  • Draft and revise HR policies to align with organizational goals and changes in laws and regulations. Collaborate with department heads for cross-functional relevance and determine training requirements on these policies. Work with legal advisors to guarantee enforceability and monitor policy effectiveness to suggest improvements.
  • Interpret and implement relevant labor laws, ensuring our HR policies comply with employment legislation. Maintain current knowledge of changing labor laws to keep our practices in line with legal standards.
  • Produce detailed risk reports for senior management and act as a liaison between the HR department and external stakeholders regarding compliance issues. Monitor regulatory compliance across all HR functions, setting clear metrics and benchmarks. Regularly report the status of compliance to senior management to ensure transparency and adherence to standards.
  • Incorporate compliance controls seamlessly into HR procedures to optimize processes. Lead the annual Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) and Cascading Certification process on behalf of HR leadership.
  • Monitor and stay updated on federal, provincial, and industry-specific regulations to ensure HR practice alignment. Gather and analyze regulatory information, and attend workshops and webinars for trend awareness. Effectively communicate compliance updates to HR teams and aid in the creation of training materials on emerging regulations.
  • Maintain the appropriate records for Coast Capital's Related Parties, Responsible Persons and Conflict of Interest Disclosures as per the Procedures.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for HR with respect to matters involving the management of risks arising from activities and initiatives related to Human Resources and Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Manage the commitments to HR related audit findings and report updates on behalf of leadership.
  • Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Law, or related field preferred
  • Professional certification in HR compliance preferred
  • 5+ years in HR policy development and management
  • 3+ years with compliance auditing and risk management
  • Expertise in drafting and revising HR policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of labor law and employment legislation interpretation
  • Skill in risk reporting and creating actionable risk management strategies
  • Ability to integrate compliance controls into HR business processes
  • Proficiency in analyzing regulatory changes and their impact on HR practices
  • Experience creating and delivering HR policy training materials
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools for compliance and risk assessment
  • Successful establishment of HR policy frameworks
  • Recognition for exceptional management of HR risks
  • History of implementing successful corrective actions following compliance audits
  • Well-documented history of continuous HR policy improvement
