Assistant Professor : Division of Design

NSCAD University invites applications for a tenure track position in Design at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a candidate with research and teaching expertise in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI), focusing on digital products and services. We are eager to embrace a new colleague who will help shape the future of design, research, and pedagogy within the vibrant environment of Atlantic Canada’s only dedicated art and design university.

The successful candidate for this position will engage with the critical discourses of Design, having applied expertise in Design’s contemporary tools, technologies, and practices, and they will be able to speculate and theorize about an evolving future. Our new colleague will develop possibilities for collaboration within NSCAD’s Design Division and with NSCAD’s Media Division, and also with other local universities and the growing UX and entrepreneurial community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The person hired will have the opportunity to work with all levels of undergraduates, including Foundation students, as well as Masters of Design students. To succeed in the position, the candidate will develop and maintain a national profile as a designer. The candidate should also expect to be an engaged contributor to service and administration, and we are particularly interested in a candidate who can be instrumental in developing the future of Design curriculum.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have :

• A terminal degree or equivalent professional experience in Design or a closely related field
• An active, original, innovative record of Design research and practice in UX and UI
• Demonstrated capacity to teach at the post-secondary level (experience with graduate students will be an asset)
