About this role


Step into a hands-on role where your technical expertise makes a tangible impact every day. As a Service Controls Specialist, you’ll take charge of preventive maintenance, repairs, installations, and commissioning of building automation control systems, all under general supervision. Your mission? Deliver top-tier customer satisfaction through direct, onsite interactions that showcase your problem-solving skills and professionalism.

You’ll have opportunities to assist more senior specialists, project managers, engineers, and designers during functional testing and system validation, expanding your knowledge and experience along the way. To thrive in this role, you must understand the foundational principles of Building Control systems and be driven to continuously learn as new products and strategies hit the market and are released for sale.

Strong documentation skills are a must—we rely on clear, thorough records of your daily work and professional recommendations to keep our standards high and our operations running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs system maintenance in accordance with established service practices and direction including field controllers, servers and workstations and field hardware. Maintains feedback of equipment scheduling and modifications needed to the service team and their appointed supervisor.

  • Communicates outstanding issues and recommends system enhancements, upgrades, and/or repairs. Is observant of additional opportunities we may have to solve issues. Works with service team to engineer and estimate solutions.

  • Manages assigned work to meet professional execution of time and customer satisfaction.

  • Reports issues or changes to management immediately in accordance with company policy and practices. Interfaces with service coordinator, service account manager and service project managers to coordinate activities as required in a professional manner.

  • Completes all job required documentation on-time including time sheets, expense reports, posting of work orders, on-site documentation and project status reports in accordance with company policy as required.

  • Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction. Meets regularly with customers representative to become familiar with the operation of customer facility. Keeps customer informed of the nature of service we are onsite to perform.

  • Follows established learning path and conducts extensive self study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's product lines. Completes certifications as required by the company.

  • Adheres to all ALC and customer safety standards. Promotes safety awareness on work sites.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • High School / GED.

  • 2+ years experience with: BACnet, DDC physical wiring and panels installation, BAS software (Building Automation Systems).

  • Possess and maintain a valid/current Driver’s License and insurable by Carrier’s insurance provider.

  • Capable to climb ladders or use other lift equipment in excess of 8 feet above grade, and capable to lift items up to 50lbs.

  • Ability to travel within the Greater Toronto Area to client sites and participate in a rotating on-call schedule as required.

Preferred Qualifications (nice to have)

Other qualifications you may have that would be beneficial in this role include:

  • Technical Vocational Diploma/ College Level Technical Certificate in either: HVAC industry/Building Automation/Engineering.

  • Capacity to learn systems software to read, test and make changes to logic as needed.

  • Background in Mechanical and HVAC system operation and design.

  • Able to communicate with stakeholder in a professional manner.

  • Entry level work knowledge/troubleshooting with BAS software functions and utilities.

  • Basic knowledge of TCP/IP networks.

  • Organized with good time management skills.

  • Read and understand Mechanical, and Electrical blueprints.

  • Basic Microsoft software knowledge i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, and other Windows products.

  • Possess computer and networking skills to properly maintain company laptop.

  • Customer Service focus.

The expected base salary range for this role is between $56,500 and $106,500. The rate of pay may be impacted by factors such as the applicant’s geographic location, market data/range, skills, prior relevant experience, job-related knowledge, specific degrees and certifications, and/or other relevant considerations.​

This compensation includes components such as base salary, vacation pay, public holiday pay, potential estimated overtime pay and paid statutory leaves of absence. Additional benefits may include insured benefits such as health care, vision, dental, disability, etc., as well as possible RRSP matching.​

Other Compensation:

This role may also provide the opportunity to earn additional incentive compensation in the form of annual bonus, sales bonus, sales commission or local incentive. If the role provides for an opportunity to earn additional incentive compensation, it will be based on measurable performance factors which may include company performance, individual performance or other key performance indicators.
