Job description

Overview

Our Energy subsector, a key component of WSP’s ERI (Energy, Resources and Industry) sector, supports clients from coast to coast. From small installations to multi-phase integrated megaprojects, we support your upstream, midstream, or downstream oil and gas activities and energy transition markets at all stages of the project lifecycle, anywhere in the world. We are focused on providing design, engineering and environmental services that contribute to climate adaptation and mitigation, sustain the use and protection of water and marine resources, protect and restore biodiversity, and support our clients as they transition to low carbon solutions. Our experts work together to offer our clients services that meet the highest standards in the industry and innovate to exceed them.

To meet our growth challenges, WSP is currently seeking an Intermediate Process Engineer to join our teams located in our offices in Alberta, Ontario and Atlantic.

As an Intermediate Process Engineer you will begin to plan and complete work without supervision, including checking calculations and aiding in training of more junior engineers. You will be part of our growing team, using your skills as an engineer to design facilities across Canada and globally. Be involved in projects with our Energy division and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Why choose WSP?

  • We value and are committed to upholding a culture of inclusion and belonging
  • Our Flexible Work Policy – we recognize the importance of balance in our lives and encourage you to prioritize the balance in yours. We will support you on and off the job so you can be fully present in both your work and home lives.
  • A Canadian success story - we're proud to wear the red and white of this beautiful country and show the world what Canada has to offer.
  • Enhance the world around you - from the environment to the highways, to the buildings and the terrain, WSP is the fabric of Canada.
  • Outstanding career opportunities - we're growing and pushing ourselves every day to be greater than yesterday - we're open to your ideas and trying new things.
  • A phenomenal collaborative culture and a workforce filled with genuinely good people who are doing humbly important work. Come find out for yourself what it's like to be a part of our journey.

We offer attractive pay, flexible work options, a great corporate culture, comprehensive and employee-focused benefits including virtual healthcare and a wellness platform as well as great savings programs, and a clear vision for the future.

What you can expect to do here

You'll be using your expertise to collaborate with different disciplines at WSP and provide expertise and client deliverables on projects. Day to day activities that will be completed with the guidance of a more senior process engineer include :

  • Conduct process simulations using appropriate software to optimize system performance and efficiency. This includes modeling and predicting process behaviors using mathematical models and computer simulations.
  • Determine the appropriate sizes for equipment based on process requirements and prepare data sheets that detail the specifications and requirements of each piece of equipment.
  • Perform calculations to determine the optimal size for process lines, considering factors such as flow rate, pressure drop, and temperature.
  • Prepare data sheets for instruments used in the process, including instrument specifications, operating conditions, and maintenance requirements.
  • Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) to represent the flow of materials through the process, identifying major equipment, process conditions, and flow rates.
  • Markup Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to reflect changes in the process or equipment, including adding, removing, or modifying symbols and labels as necessary.
  • Conduct studies to understand and improve the process, including analyzing data, identifying bottlenecks, and proposing solutions to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Participate in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies to identify and evaluate potential hazards and propose mitigation measures.
  • Review drawings provided by vendors to ensure they meet process requirements, including checking dimensions, materials, and design details.
  • The majority of work will be task oriented. The engineer may be in charge of smaller projects or be assigned to a specific client as alliance support. On larger projects, you will support the Area Lead to complete tasks above.
  • What you’ll bring to WSP

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry working as a process engineer, ideally with gas processing plant experience
  • P.Eng licensed with APEGA
  • Enjoy working in a team environment in an intermediate role to develop your skills
  • Strong communication and report writing skills
  • Be organized and complete tasks with a focus on quality, schedule and budget
