Job description

Position Summary : The Cultural Program Facilitator will provide both virtual and land-based cultural guidance and support to Indigenous children, youth, families, and Agency staff. Reporting to the Supervisor, Cultural Services the Cultural Program Facilitator will play a key role in cultural programs facilitation within the Agency. A primary responsibility of this position strengthening community connections and will establish and maintain relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and other Cultural Teachers to expand the Agency’s network of cultural supports.

Key Responsibilities :

Cultural Programming and Facilitation :

  • Plan, organize, and facilitate cultural workshops, ceremonies, healing circles, and gatherings for staff, families, caregivers, and the community.
  • Ensure that children, youth, and families have access to appropriate cultural programming based on their needs and requests.
  • Coordinate and support Agency ceremonies and events, ensuring that cultural protocols are honored and respected.
  • Support the integration of traditional knowledge and teachings into service delivery within a holistic child well-being framework.
  • Apply trauma-informed and culturally grounded approaches, such as Talking Circles and Ceremony, when providing crisis intervention and support.

Community Engagement and Cultural Resource Development :

  • Establish and maintain relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and other cultural mentors to support the needs of Indigenous children, youth, families, and the broader NCFST community.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive resource list of Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and other cultural supports.
  • Serve as a cultural resource by providing information, guidance, and education to ensure the sharing, understanding, and preservation of Indigenous knowledge, practices, and protocols.
  • Reporting and Administration :

  • Prepare and maintain accurate reports and statistical records as required for funding purposes.
  • Supporting with creating and maintaining booking forms, program registration forms, and feedback forms.
  • Other related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Minimum Qualifications and Skills :

  • Lived experience as an Indigenous person with the ability to share and transfer traditional knowledge, and facilitate cultural programming while respecting the unique cultural distinctions across Indigenous communities.
  • Extensive knowledge of the history, cultures, and traditions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples.
  • Strong ability to engage and collaborate respectfully with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, children, youth, families, community members, students, caregivers, allies, and partners.
  • Deep understanding of the complexities and uniqueness of service delivery to Indigenous Peoples within a holistic child well-being agency.
  • Familiarity with NCFST programs and services.
  • Experience working with Indigenous people, organizations, and communities is required.
  • Experience in a social services organization developing and delivering cultural programs and services is considered an asset.
  • Access to a vehicle and a valid Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s License is considered an asset, but not required.
