Reporting to the VP Legal & Corporate Affairs, goeasy is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide legal and regulatory advice and guidance to the goeasy team on a variety of matters, including: contract review and contract lifecycle management, contract negotiation and interpretation, and compliance with all applicable laws that impact business operations.

What will you be doing?

  • Identifying, addressing, and managing business needs in support of strategic objectives, while providing support and triage of matters to the VP, Legal & Corporate Affairs.
  • Leading the legal process and review in contract lifecycle management, and collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the vendor lifecycle - including vendor selection, onboarding, contract review and approval while recommending process enhancements.
  • Responding to regulatory inquiries by working with business partners to understand and improve internal processes.
  • Leading legal reviews and providing business support in areas such as consumer protection, customer resolutions, and other relevant subject matters.
  • Conducting legal research on issues impacting business operations, in collaboration with the Director, Government Relations & Legal.
  • Building strong working relationships across all levels of the business to provide legal guidance, influence, and support - becoming a trusted advisor within the organization.
  • Keeping the Chief Legal Officer informed of legal issues, risks, and opportunities within your areas of responsibility.
  • Advising on complex legal matters and tailoring recommendations to align with business goals and public company requirements.
  • Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments, and supporting the VP, Legal & Corporate Affairs and Chief Legal Officer in developing business-focused responses.
  • Supporting new and existing service offerings across business lines, including partnership initiatives and strategic proposals.
  • Assisting the Chief Legal Officer with corporate governance and policy matters, as needed.
  • Leading and supporting legal proceedings involving the company to protect its interests.
  • Providing practical, business-oriented legal opinions across a wide range of functional areas.
  • Supporting the Legal & Corporate Affairs team in maintaining and administering corporate records and registrations, especially in the context of a public company operating across all provinces.

What experience do you have?

  • 2–4 years of relevant legal experience, preferably within a dynamic corporate legal department.
  • In-house legal experience supporting financial services and/or public companies is preferred.
  • Regulatory experience is considered an asset.
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, with demonstrated expertise in applicable areas of law.
  • Proven entrepreneurial mindset, with a track record of challenging the status quo and introducing innovative legal solutions and best practices.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments, partner groups, and member organizations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • A proactive self-starter with the ability to assess needs, develop strategies, and lead implementation efforts independently.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, with a team-oriented approach and readiness to pivot as business needs evolve.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software tools.
