Communications Manager

The Communications Manager is responsible for developing and executing external and internal communications strategies that enhance brand visibility and foster a strong corporate culture. This position will provide the successful candidate with a diverse range of meaningful work, supporting your professional growth and development. The role involves creating and managing media plans, public relations strategies, community impact initiatives, sponsorships, and crisis communications. It also supports employee engagement, HR communications, and other departments, advising leaders on communication strategies, and managing content for company projects, updates and events. This position will provide a flexible hybrid schedule (not fully remote), with approximatelyone to two days a week in our corporate office in North Vancouver (requires availability to respond to crisis communications and attend media / public relations events).

Key responsibilities of this role are :

Corporate Communications and PR

  • Create, execute, measure and / or oversee corporate communications and media plans, often working with an external agency.
  • Collaborates with the Director, Communications & Community Engagement to develop and execute the public relations strategy.
  • In collaboration with the Director, Corporate Communications & Community Engagement prepares and monitors KPIs to measure the effectiveness of PR strategy.
  • Manage external public relations agency, targets and performance.
  • Create opportunities for enhanced messaging and exposure. Write and / or edit external articles, plan launch podcasts and speaking events.
  • Provide strategic counsel and coaching to media spokespeople.
  • Provide guidance to colleagues on external communications (social media, executive presentations, etc.) to ensure consistency and reflect the brand in all outward-facing material.
  • A key contributor to Community Impact and Sponsorship strategy and responsible for successful execution.Create strategy for elevating brand through awards and speaking opportunities and responsible for executing on award applications, securing speaking opportunities, and related promotion.
  • Ensures marketing and advertising efforts align with PR efforts including contributing to content calendar and working with Marketing Communications leadership to align topics.
  • Manage the preparation of the Annual Report and ESG Report.
  • Manage crisis communications deliverables as needed.
  • In collaboration with Marketing Manager, develop organic social media strategy, content development and execution to align with paid social strategy and tactics.
  • Manage events as required including activation for sponsorship and community impact initiatives.
  • In collaboration with the Director, Corporate Communications & Community Engagement, supports the preparation of and monitors the budget for corporate communication initiatives.
  • Oversees the execution of corporate communication assets, including both digital tools and physical resources, in alignment with organizational needs.

Internal Communications

  • Create, execute, and measure internal communication strategies for a variety of projects and initiatives, ensuring employees are well-informed and aligned with company goals.
  • Collaborate with business leaders and project teamsto deliver clear, engaging communication for company-wide updates, changes, and key initiatives.
  • Advise senior leaders, within the context of your projects,on effective communication approaches to increase engagement and awareness across the organization.
  • Help oversee the Intranet and other internal channels, providing relevant updates and ensuring content is current and accessible.
  • Manage content for company meetings, events, and announcements that reflect our organizational priorities and values.
  • Coaches and provides peer support and coaching as needed to members of the extended Marketing, Communications and Strategy team.
  • Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degreein Communications, Marketing or related education
  • 6-8 yearsof experience in corporate communications
  • Experience planning and executing successful communications projects
  • Experience with media relations
  • Experience with event and sponsorship planning and management
  • Experience contributing to organic social media strategy and producing engaging social media content
  • Experience coaching colleagues
  • Experience working with C-suite executives
  • Experience producing corporate videos, photo shoots, and partner film shoots

    The target range of this role is $94,000 - $110,000 per year, plus a variable performance bonus. Employment offers are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
