This is a newly created role.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Provide Delivery Partner oversight of System Safety Assurance and RAMS activities across the full system lifecycle, ensuring alignment with EN 50126 / 50128 / 50129, client requirements, and contract obligations.

Review and challenge the project delivery entity’s Safety Assurance Plans, RAM Plans (HW/SW), and System Safety Program Plans for adequacy, consistency, and contractual compliance.

Monitor and assess the implementation of RAMS processes across the V-cycle, including requirement decomposition, allocation, verification, and validation.

Review and challenge RAM quantitative targets, allocation strategies, RAM demonstration plans, and FRACAS implementation.

Ensure the adequacy and consistency of safety analyses produced by the project delivery entity and suppliers, including PHA, SHA, SSHA, IHA, O&SHA, FMEA/FMECA, FTA, ETA, RBD, and CCF.

Support the review and acceptance of System Safety Cases, in coordination with the Independent Safety Assessor and key stakeholders.

Oversee governance of hazard logs, safety databases, and requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS NG), ensuring traceability, audit readiness, and alignment with assurance expectations.

Ensure Human Factors and Human Reliability considerations are appropriately addressed and integrated into system safety assurance activities.

Represent the Delivery Partner RAMS and safety assurance function in project governance forums, working groups, and assurance reviews.

Act as a key technical interface between AECOM (DP), the client, the project delivery entity, suppliers, and the Independent Safety Assessor.

Provide clear, evidence-based assurance advice to the System Assurance Lead to support risk-informed decision-making.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors Engineering Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (mechanical, electrical, etc.)

6+ years of relevant experience in Rail Safety Assurance & RAM.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong experience across the rail system lifecycle, with deep knowledge of EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, and familiarity with EN 50159, AREMA, IEEE, MIL-STD-882, and ISO 15288.

Practical understanding of RAMS quantitative analysis, RAM demonstration, FRACAS, and lifecycle assurance in major rail infrastructure projects.

Proven experience reviewing and assuring Safety Case development under EN 50129.

Strong familiarity with safety analysis methods and tools used in rail and transit projects.

Experience with requirements and hazard management tools (e.g. DOORS) and assurance data governance.

Demonstrated experience supporting safety certification and independent assurance processes on complex railway projects.

Solid understanding of complex system architectures, interfaces, and multidisciplinary integration.

Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to provide clear, authoritative technical challenge in a client-facing Delivery Partner role.
