Seasonal Weed Inspector

This posting is for multiple, non-permanent seasonal hourly positions ranging from 17 to 22 weeks. Positions have start dates ranging from April to May 2026.

Join Planning and Development Services for the 2026 summer season! Weed Inspectors are responsible for inspecting public and private properties for noxious and prohibited weeds as listed in the Alberta Weed Control Act and Regulations. In addition, the Weed Inspector is required to enter weed inspection information into a department specific software program, map weed infestations and write reports.

Key Responsibilities :

• Inspect public and private properties as per the Alberta Weed Control Act and Regulations
• Educate residents about ecological and economic impact of weed infestations, invasive species, and how to identify problem weeds on their property
• Direct landowners on their responsibilities under the Weed Control Act and outcomes for non-compliance
• Enforce the Alberta Weed Control Act which involves issuing notices, tracking due dates, working with GIS software, and initiating enforcement on non-compliant properties
• Communicate with various stakeholders such as residents, industry, and commercial businesses in a professional manner
• Work with confidential and sensitive information while balancing complex issues posed by stakeholder disputes

Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
