Job Description

Transform Engineering Excellence at Field Aerospace

Are you ready to lead engineering innovation where cutting-edge technology meets mission-critical aerospace solutions?

Field Aerospace is seeking an exceptional VP Engineering to spearhead our comprehensive engineering organization across our diverse portfolio of aerospace capabilities. This is not a typical engineering leadership role - it's an opportunity to architect the future of a dynamic organization that operates at the intersection of commercial aviation, defense applications, and specialized mission systems.

The Challenge : You'll inherit a technically capable engineering organization that needs visionary leadership to unlock its full potential. Our teams work across an extraordinary range of disciplines—from structural, avionics, electrical, and systems modification to performing test flights, delivering exceptional modification and digital upgrades from concept through lifecycle management, and managing more than 130 STCs on 64 aircraft types. What we need is a transformational leader who can bring focus, accountability, and strategic direction to harness this diverse expertise.

The Scope : As VP Engineering, you'll oversee all engineering functions across Field Aerospace's integrated capabilities for the Canadian division, including :

  • Complex Systems Integration : Leading teams that integrate avionics (military and commercial), communications (voice, data links, satellite, secure), ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance), and special purpose mission systems
  • Regulatory Excellence : Navigating the intricate landscape of aviation certification, including our STC approvals

The Opportunity :

This role demands someone who thrives in complexity and sees opportunity where others see challenges. You'll be joining an organization with proven technical capabilities, but one that needs a leader who can establish clear vision, implement robust processes, and create a culture of accountability and excellence. Our staff is completely familiar with the requirements for working within integrated product team (IPT) environments, and you'll build upon this foundation to create industry-leading engineering practices.

What We're Looking For :

We need a proven engineering executive with the rare combination of deep technical expertise, exceptional organizational acumen, and transformational leadership capabilities. You must be someone who can simultaneously navigate complex regulatory frameworks, drive operational excellence, and inspire teams to achieve breakthrough results.

This is a role for a leader who doesn't just manage engineering—but shapes its future.

If you're driven by the prospect of leading a multifaceted engineering organization where no two projects are alike, where innovation directly impacts mission success, and where your leadership can transform capability into competitive advantage, we want to hear from you.

Essential Job Functions :

  • Develop and grow the technical strength of the company resulting in superior products and services within the Aerospace, Aviation and Services industries.
  • Represent Field Aviation in working with regulatory agencies in domestic and foreign markets to ensure strict compliance with safety and quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Support safety review process in relation to aircraft certifications
  • Lead creation of Design Standards aimed at driving standard design process, lessons learned, permanent corrective actions, checklists, etc. to ensure the design meets all requirements and can be certified in accordance with Cvil and / or Military standards.
  • Implement effective engineering methods and provide technical guidance while serving as a resource for engineers.
  • Champion effort to conduct robust design reviews of the products and services we offer.
  • Create a culture of technical excellence within the business where both technical leadership and technical career paths are seen as mutually important to success of business and our customers.
  • Leads and directs the work of other employees and has responsibility for personnel actions including hiring, performance management, and termination. Supervision is often provided through a team of subordinate technical experts.
  • Support Company Executive in identifying key technical skillsets necessary to drive business growth.
  • Create technical training personas for the various roles within the engineering division and develop training content as needed to ensure the engineering team is properly equipped to do their work.
  • Own the technical career path process including identification and development of top technical talent, conducting talent reviews, promoting talent, etc.
  • Mentor and coach engineering management to create an engineering-led business culture.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, direction, and goal setting for the Engineering Team in collaboration with executive management.
  • Skills and Experience :

  • Minimum of fifteen years progressive aerospace engineering and technical experience with the concepts and principles of one or more related fields or departments. Aircraft structural design and analysis experience highly preferred.
  • Project management experience leading large multi-discipline engineering teams, managing projects and developing people
  • Good knowledge of GTAA and other aviation agencies across Ontario and Canada
  • Excellent communication, decision-making and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • A natural curiosity and drive to make things better every single day
  • Education :

  • Bachelor’s degree in field(s) of practice with relevant airside / landside experience
  • Graduate degree preferred. Strong Project Management experience on airside or landside aviation projects in Canada
  • Reports to : President
