Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) is Alberta's professional regulatory body for applied science and engineering technology professionals. Reporting to the Registrar and Director of Practice, the Deputy Registrar acts as a key policy advisor to internal staff, boards, and committees; serves as a primary back-up to the Registrar; and leads improvements to processes, tools, and documentation that support consistent, transparent, and compliant regulatory practice. The ideal candidate is a thoughtful and principled leader with a proven background in regulatory affairs or compliance, drawn to public service and collaborative problem-solving. You have keen judgement, professionalism, and skill at translating complex legislative requirements into clear, defensible decisions. Confident in your ability to support and guide regulatory boards, you bring diplomacy and integrity to sensitive files and conversations.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

In this leadership role reporting to the Registrar and Director of Practice, you will :

  • Manage registration and renewal processes, ensuring fairness, transparency, and compliance with legislation, regulations, bylaws, and policy (in consultation with the Registrar);
  • Manage continuing competence and practice review programs, sustaining professional standards and public trust (in consultation with the Registrar);
  • Administer complaints, discipline, appeals, and title misuse processes, supporting boards and committees (in consultation with the Registrar);
  • Provide board and committee support through meeting coordination, joint board liaison activities, and documentation;
  • Provide senior-level support and backup to the Registrar, providing policy advice and advancing priority regulatory files and process improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a related field, including direct management and / or supervisory responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience working with legislation, regulations, policy research, and board / committee governance.
  • Knowledge of the professional regulation landscape and / or the applied science and engineering technology sector is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort working with a variety of software applications and databases.

  • COMPENSATION

    ASET offers a competitive salary range of $104,400 to $127,600 annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
