Job Description

This individual will be responsible for off-loading and on-loading all goods from containers using a propane sit-down counterbalance forklift.

The role requires the operator to work quickly and safely in tight quarters, handling various freight types that can be heavy and of different shapes.

The operator will use paper shipping documents and eventually transition to digital shipping software. The facility is open but requires careful maneuvering in tight spaces.

The candidate must be comfortable with a contract that may be extended depending on the internal hiring process.

Responsibilities

• Operate a propane sit-down counterbalance forklift to load and unload goods from containers.
• Ensure safe and efficient handling of freight, which varies in shape and weight.
• Use paper shipping documents and transition to digital shipping software.
• Maneuver forklift in tight quarters and turn tight corners.
• Move shipments of various sizes and weights.
• Maintain a high level of safety and productivity.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 1-year experience operating a sit-down counterbalance forklift in an LTL environment.
• Valid forklift ticket.
• Good computer skills.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2-5 years experience in LTL.
• Leadership experience.
• Experience with Truckmate software.
• Ability to work independently.
• Initiative-taking.
• Comfortable with shop talk.
• Good English communication skills.

Work Environment

This is a fast-paced environment with a 24-hour operation depending on truck arrivals and departures. The facility is very busy with incoming and outgoing trucks and drivers, and forklifts move at a safe but fast pace.

Products are staged on the dock, which has more than 50 doors, and include a variety of items such as fridges and tires.

The team consists of approximately 50 operators per shift in a multicultural and independent work culture. The dress code includes steel-toe boots (personal or provided on-site) and appropriate attire for a busy dock environment.

Shift options are Monday to Friday from 3 pm to 11 pm.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Surrey, British Columbia.
