Automation Specialist – Maple Leaf Foods Inc

Join Maple Leaf Foods Inc to support the automation actions for the facility. The role includes system backups, disaster recovery, production support, department training, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment efficiency and optimize manufacturing effectiveness.

Role

• Primary support for distributed and local process control and monitoring automation systems.
• Troubleshoot HMI, PLC, Remote IO, VFD, electronic control‑related and communication network issues.
• Provide input on equipment installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of SCADA, PCS, MES, and BAS systems.
• Maintain plant control and monitoring automation systems by updating documentation and keeping backups of all machine and robot control systems.
• Maintain asset center repository to ensure all backups are synchronized.
• Update all equipment‑related and computer integration software to keep revisions current.
• Support all departments when launching new programs.
• Coordinate with engineering on equipment modifications.
• Design electrical schematics in AutoCAD for equipment changes.
• Diagnose equipment locally or via VPN as required.
• Mentor team members on controls‑related issue resolution.
• Handle the escalation procedure and accept after‑hours calls as needed.
• Work with Maintenance to mentor and develop technical support skills.
• Develop contingency support plans for Maintenance staff and ensure knowledge transfer.
• Keep equipment‑level network systems aligned with Corporate IS protocols.
• Manage and support the facility Building Automation System.
