Job Details

Title : Community Coordinator, Crisis Response

Salary : $66,597 - $83,246 - $91,571 per year (pay range explained below)

Contract : Permanent

Hours : 37.5 hours (core hours 9am-3pm Mon-Fri)

Location : Port Alberni, BC, located on the ancestral territories of the Tseshaht Nation – Onsite – Travel throughout Nuu-Chah-Nulth tribal territory is required.

About The Role

As a Community Coordinator, Crisis Response, you’ll be at the forefront of providing crucial support to communities during crisis situations. Working closely with our Regional Manager, Health Emergency Management, you’ll have the opportunity to travel to various communities, offering debriefing and mentorship to local crisis response teams.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have / be –

Education and Occupational Certifications

  • A relevant diploma relating to First Nations, mental health and wellness, or social work.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in relevant fields, professional certifications in Microsoft Office, training in supportive and debriefing models (e.g. Critical Incident Stress Management, ASIST & SafeTALK Trainer Certifications, First Responder, Restorative Justice Circle), and / or other trainings relevant to the role are assets.

Experience

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience is required.
  • Experience in providing trauma-informed support, including debriefing after critical incidents and guiding individuals through grief processing.
  • Skilled in supporting First Nations communities in the areas of mental health, addictions, and traditional wellness practices.
  • Experience in facilitating workshops and groups is an asset.
  • Knowledge

  • Knowledge of First Nations communities and familiarity with holistic healing practices, including the cultural, social, and historical contexts that shape wellness approaches.
  • Understanding of program areas related to mental wellness, including ethical considerations and client confidentiality in providing emotional or holistic support.
  • Awareness of the British Columbia Emergency Management System (BCEMS) and its relevance in supporting community response efforts.
  • Competencies

  • Demonstrates strong self-care practices and the ability to maintain a personal wellness plan while supporting others.
  • Able to deliver cultural wellness interventions (e.g., Circle work, ceremonial cleansing, cultural grounding) and physically able to meet the demands of the role, including frequent travel within the service area.

    The Pay Range is the minimum and maximum annual salary based on full time equivalent hours. Incumbents are typically hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the range based on their knowledge, skills, abilities and experience in relation to the role requirements. The top 10% of the pay range is for the incumbents who are industry experts in the job with the combination of exceptional experience and competencies needed to perform all duties and responsibilities at a superior capability level. Internal employee compensation will be determined as per the FNHA Employee Total Compensation Policy.
