Compensation : $27.92 - $29.60 per hour
Reports to : Program Manager, The Nest

Job Summary
The Program Assistant supports the daily operations of Phoenix Centre and ensures that operational quality and licensing standards are always maintained. Works to ensure a safe, well maintained, and healthy environment.
Responsibilities
- Client Services : Monitor and assess resident behaviours and client movement in and out of the building.
- Monitor curfews of residents returning to the Centre and Supportive Housing Programs.
- Conduct random (or client-requested) basic wellness checks on clients; overdose precaution / response where applicable. Clients are encouraged to use overdose prevention sites / designated safe use areas. Carry out duties in accordance with health and safety protocols.
- Observe and accurately document resident behaviour using concrete, factual descriptions.
- Report behaviours to supervisory staff that pose a risk to residents, other residents, staff and / or the community.
- Assist clients with the development of life skills, healthy daily living, social activities, meeting obligations, keeping appointments, and promoting effective social and interpersonal skills in line with established care plans; act as a positive role model.
- Engage with residents to ensure safety and adherence to the program agreement.
- Encourage awareness of interdependence of community members and the value of responsible concern for self and others.
- Meal deliveries (to-go options available for mobility challenges); assist with packing meals and delivering to residents as needed.
- Assist new residents with welcome gift bags sourced from donations.
- Debrief with incoming shifts to ensure detailed transfer of information (e.g., concerns).
- Support a safe environment regarding relations with staff, program participants, and community members.
- Maintain a safe, well-maintained building; address trespassers and involve authorities if needed.
- Complete regular rounds of the facility as scheduled during shifts.
- Assist the manager in organizing and distributing donations (food and clothing).
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Grade 12Certificate in Community Social Service or equivalentRecent, related experience of one year working with marginalized populations, substance use services, mental health, corrections, etc., or equivalentSatisfactory completion of criminal records check with vulnerable sector screeningSatisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screening formSatisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record formFirst Aid 1 and Current CPR certificateSkills & Knowledge
Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, and database management systems.Knowledge of and ability to operate standard office equipment and building security monitoring system.High integrity, dependability, urgency and results-orientation.Strong problem-solving, analytical and decision-making abilities with sound judgement.Strong interpersonal skills and written / verbal English communication.Commitment to the social sector and organization’s mission.Competencies
