Required hours : 9,000 hours per year of Full time employment

Overview :

The Plumber is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

This role involves working with pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing systems to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of water, gas, and the removal of waste.

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of plumbing systems, troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities :

Installation and Maintenance :

Install and repair water, gas, and sewage pipes, fixtures, and systems in buildings and other structures.

Install sinks, toilets, water heaters, faucets, dishwashers, and other plumbing equipment.

Perform regular maintenance on plumbing systems to ensure their efficiency and longevity, including clearing clogs, replacing pipes, and checking for leaks.

Troubleshooting and Repair :

Diagnose plumbing issues and identify the cause of problems such as leaks, blockages, low water pressure, or faulty systems.

Provide effective solutions and repair damaged or malfunctioning plumbing systems.

Test systems to ensure proper function after repairs or installations.

Pipefitting and Welding :

Cut, thread, bend, and install piping systems according to technical specifications.

Perform welding or soldering of pipes and fittings as needed, particularly for gas lines and metal piping.

Blueprint and System Interpretation :

Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and building plans to determine the layout and design of plumbing systems.

Work with other trades and contractors to ensure that plumbing systems align with overall building plans.

Safety and Compliance :

Follow all safety regulations and use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and helmets.

Ensure all plumbing installations and repairs comply with local plumbing codes and industry regulations.

Inspect and test systems to ensure they meet required safety standards and operational efficiency.

Customer Service and Communication :

Communicate effectively with clients to discuss plumbing issues, provide estimates, and explain repairs or installations.

Offer advice on plumbing maintenance to help clients avoid future issues.

Ensure a professional and courteous demeanor while on-site.

Inventory Management and Tool Maintenance :

Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.

Order and manage necessary parts, tools, and materials for ongoing projects.

Keep an organized and clean work area, including job sites.

Qualifications :

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Completion of a plumbing apprenticeship program or vocational training is preferred.

Experience :

2-5 years of experience in plumbing or a related field, including installation, maintenance, and repairs.

Experience in residential, commercial, or industrial plumbing is a plus.

Skills :

Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, components, and equipment.

Ability to diagnose plumbing problems and develop effective solutions.

Proficiency in using plumbing tools and equipment, including pipe cutters, wrenches, drills, and welding / soldering tools.

Excellent attention to detail and high-quality workmanship.

Good problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

Knowledge of plumbing codes and safety regulations.

Physical Requirements :

Ability to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment (up to 50 lbs).

Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, or in difficult-to-reach areas.

Ability to stand, kneel, or bend for long periods of time during installations or repairs.

Certifications :

A valid plumbing license or certification is required by most jurisdictions.

Certification in backflow prevention or other specialized plumbing fields is a plus.

A valid driver’s license may be required, especially if traveling to multiple job sites.

Preferred Attributes :

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines and customer expectations.

Familiarity with modern plumbing technologies and green building practices.

Work Environment :

The role is typically performed on job sites, including residential homes, commercial buildings, and industrial settings.

Work may involve exposure to dust, dirt, chemicals, or hot / cold environments depending on the specific job location.

Protective equipment, including gloves, safety glasses, and other gear, is required to ensure safety while on-site.

The position may require working at various heights or in confined spaces.
