Data Scientist, Quantitative Equity – Connor, Clark & Lunn Investment Management (CC&L). Vancouver, BC.
We are a high-performance Quantitative Equity Team embedded in a top-performing quant fund. We aim to generate key investment insights and continuously prepare new data products for research by leveraging data analytics, finance knowledge, and cutting-edge technology.
What You Will Do
This is a full-time role for individuals excited to learn the quantitative equity investment management business and tackle a broad range of investment, mathematical, and technology challenges.
You will start with a comprehensive training program to learn about quantitative equity investment management and our investment process. You will then advance to a specialized role using data science, machine learning, AI, and process engineering to accelerate the Quantitative Equity Team’s data preparation and modelling functions. Your work will involve building, scaling, managing, and evaluating our integrated data model in direct support of alpha research.
You will be supported with coaching and mentorship from senior team members, with opportunities for steady career growth in data.
Responsibilities
Develop and continuously improve practical methods for named entity recognition (NER) and create knowledge graphs at scale
Create methods, algorithms & processes to identify, link, explore and assess billions of data points
Test structured and unstructured data sets for data quality and reliability
Collaborate with quantitative researchers to support alpha projects with data expertise
Collaborate with technology specialists to balance application performance and operational feasibility
Support production deployments to ensure long-term reliability
Ensure accessibility and clarity of work through robust documentation
Present findings and recommendations to key stakeholders clearly and concisely
What You Bring
Analytical mindset with critical and creative thinking and statistical validation
Practical experience building, validating, and enhancing ML / AI models on large data sets
Technical capability to solve challenging data problems with ambiguity and business trade-offs
Desire to acquire financial context to understand stakeholders and make data-driven decisions
Self-starter with accountability for quality and timeliness
Collaborative approach and ability to communicate complex concepts effectively
Time management to prioritize multiple projects
Academic background : Undergraduate degree in finance, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or related field. Graduate degree is an asset
