Job description
Overview
At KPMG, you'll join a team of diverse and dedicated problem solvers, connected by a common cause: turning insight into opportunity for clients and communities around the world.

KPMG's Infrastructure, Capital Projects, and Sustainability (ICPS) practice is focused on being the trusted advisors of choice on major infrastructure programs within federal, provincial and municipal governments, and transport, education, power and utilities, digital, healthcare, energy and mining, sustainability, and Indigenous advisory. We are a team of 70 professionals within Toronto and a national team of over 250 including economists, engineers, project management professionals, finance professionals, accountants, and consultants.

We advise public and private sector clients on all aspects of the infrastructure lifecycle from project feasibility, through procurement and commercial negotiations, into construction delivery, asset management, and ultimately divestment and reinvestment. This means our team members think strategically and have the technical skills required to engage meaningfully with our clients throughout all stages of the project lifecycle.

Within the ICPS practice, our Major Projects Advisory team supports public and private sector clients in delivering major projects and programs, with a focus on several key areas including commercial strategy, project governance reviews, project management and controls, project and contractor performance assessments, claims and disputes, and technical due diligence.

What you will do
As a Manager within KPMG's Major Projects Advisory team , you will support the delivery of high-quality services to top-tier public and private sector clients including government agencies, contractors, industry associations, developers, investors and asset managers, by bringing engineering, professional services, or construction industry expertise to the team .

  • Support the development and growth of KPMG's Major Projects Advisory services and manage the delivery of program/project delivery governance, commercial, and technical advisory engagements for public and private sector infrastructure clients.
  • Work with a team of professionals in the coordination and delivery of engagement field work, including the preparation of proposals, deliverables, analysis and documentation, presentation to clients and engagement economics.
  • Provide commercial advisory services on large scale projects, including cost and schedule reviews and working with project owners to develop project delivery and contract strategy options for mega-projects and programs.
  • Support clients with the analysis and turnaround of troubled projects, providing independent review and turnaround strategy, and litigation avoidance or claims management services, including schedule delay and cost quantum reports in engineering or construction disputes.
  • Conduct commercial and technical due diligence on potential acquisition targets on behalf of clients.
  • Play a supporting role in business development initiatives, including presentations, client meetings, and contributing to practice development initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services to solve clients' complex business problems.
  • Train and mentor junior staff and contribute to the overall skills enhancement and experience of the team.
At times, business needs arise and employees are required and agree to work beyond their normal work day or work week to fulfill the accountabilities required for their job. Likewise, we understand our people may need extra time to devote to personal matters, and our approach to flexibility provides for this.

What you bring to the role
  • Manager 6+ years of consulting experience, with involvement in infrastructure and heavy industry, having worked for large established engineering and professional services firms or construction companies.
  • Project field experience, ideally with a contractor or large engineering or project management firm.
  • Preference given to candidates with management consulting experience focused on infrastructure or project advisory services.
  • Undergraduate degree in business administration, engineering, architecture, planning or similar technical degree.
  • MBA, Master of Finance, Master of Law, or PMP an asset.
  • Professional construction designations such as Professional Engineer or Professional Architect an asset.
  • Exceptional leadership skills and ability to supervise and mentor a team to deliver consulting engagements.
  • Solid business acumen, including financial and commercial literacy and ability to translate complex data and information into meaningful insights.
  • Written and oral communication skills to present and synthesize key information.
  • Business Development experience in addition to project management experience would be an asset.
  • Attention to detail and ability to analyze contract documents, project reports, and synthesize report findings into forward looking recommendations for project performance improvement.
  • French or Spanish languages are an asset.
  • Must be able to travel within Canada, United States and internationally due to our diverse client base.
