Job descriptionPrioritize providing exceptional customer service to deliver a positive customer experience thereby cultivating a positive reputation for the company and fostering customer loyalty. Coordinate departmental activities and operations. Greet and assist customers in a manner that models exemplary conduct to other staff. Lead by example to build department commitment to high standards of service. Encourage a positive team atmosphere that enables the team to meet or exceed goals and achieve consistently high levels of customer service. Ensure all customer complaints are addressed and handled professionally, leaving the customer with a positive resolution. Train employees in company products and knowledge Conduct one-on-one or small group training presentations for product knowledge, store activities, and established policies and procedures. Strive to minimize staff turnover and to keep team headcount at acceptable levels. Maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep the store operating to our level of standards, and to set a positive example for your team. Assist with new employee training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed. Provide input to strategic and tactical planning processes. Supervise the activities of all grocery clerks. Provide feedback to store manager on employee performance. Administer disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures. Provide and maintain a safe work environment which includes safety training for staff, when required. Regularly communicate and collaborate between other departments and with other stores. Respond and resolve employee issues, escalating to Department and / or Store manager as needed. Implement department plans and budgets as assigned by the Department Manager Drive sales while honoring trends within the department. Staff scheduling, maintaining budgeted labor hours. Assist with Inventory Management Adhering to all food safety protocols, standard operating procedures, health and safety policies, and other programs and initiatives. Other duties as required. Assists with Department plans and budgets, including labour budgets achieved through effective scheduling, measuring results, allocating resources, reviewing progress and making mid-course corrections as required Assists in implementing the Strategy for the Department Assists with payroll for the department. Builds a strong, cohesive team where employees feel they contribute and are valued. Grows their team and empowers employees to make decisions on their own. Delegates responsibilities to their employees Identifies key performers and provides opportunities for growth, development and advancement. Supervises the work of the grocery employees. Ensures schedules are completed and posted for employees in a timely manner. In conjunction with Human Resources, recruits and selects new grocery staff. Holds monthly staff meetings to keep employees informed of operations and company news. Provides employee with regular feedback on their performance. Follows up with staff on any breach of company policy and ensure proper progressive discipline forms are completed. Provides standardized training for all new and existing employees, including health and safety High School or GED from an accredited school system or program is preferred. Minimum of one year of experience in retail preferred. One year of experience in a supervisory or managerial role preferred. Excellent listening skills and communication skills, both verbal and written Ability to work under pressure, while maintaining a professional image at all times Work independently with little direct supervision. Have a well-balanced concern for both task and people. Ability to delegate duties and responsibilities. Have a genuine concern for needs of customers. Long periods of standing and walking. Frequent motions include bending, twisting, squatting, pushing, pulling, and reaching. Includes manual and repetitive tasks. On occasion, you may be required to lift up to 22.5 kg (50 lbs). Required to work a variety of shifts including mornings, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Required at times to work with challenging customers and / or situations. Exposed to hot and cold environments. Exposed to sharp equipment.
