The Role

Supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of corporate health and wellness initiatives consistent with the principles of the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety for employees onsite and those working remotely. Assists in the coordination of employee vaccination and health promotion efforts.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of corporate health and wellness initiatives by providing training and development, research, guidance, and action plans as directed.
  • Consults with manager, members of HR teams, client areas, wellness committee / champions and peer supporters to obtain / provide information related to the development and implementation of initiatives. Works with program areas to develop and implement wellness initiatives.
  • Responds to general inquiries about the Region’s wellness initiatives and Employee Family and Assistance Program, refers those outside of scope to manager. Gathers program feedback from staff and follows up.
  • Coordinates / organizes logistics for wellness initiatives and sessions (e.g. schedules rooms, coordinates links for virtual sessions, compiles information, communications).
  • Develops resources to support wellness initiatives. Reviews current wellness trends, identifies opportunities, and recommends initiatives for consideration.
  • Prepares reports to illustrate the impact of the programs and initiatives and creates presentations or information, for review and approval.
  • Assists to plan and coordinate the annual wellness fair and other corporate or department-specific wellness activities.
  • Assists to plan and coordinate employee vaccination and health promotion clinics.
  • Provides administrative and related support to peer support networks, as required.
  • Maintains a directory of community supports and resources used for information, referrals, and advocacy.
  • Assists in the preparation and development of educational resources, promotional material, displays, and content for digital platforms (e.g., intranet posts, wellness blog, wellness newsletter, health promotion tips).
  • Conducts research and external surveys to identify new wellness initiatives, trends and insights, and provides recommendations on new initiatives.
  • Conducts qualitative or quantitative analysis on wellness initiatives to identify trends and support data informed decision-making, and makes recommendations to the Manager.
  • Contacts vendors, suppliers, and training consultants for information and price quotes.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and skill normally acquired through a university degree in a related field (e.g., health studies including workplace wellness and health promotion; occupational health and safety; kinesiology; physical health education; social work; psychology) plus related experience.
  • Knowledge of the CSA Z1003 Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, collective agreements, and legislation (e.g., occupational health and safety, privacy, accessibility, human rights code).
  • Analytical, organizational, problem solving, and attention to detail skills to plan, coordinate, and organize various wellness initiatives and materials.
  • Communication and human relations skills to provide guidance, assistance, and support to all levels of staff; explain processes and procedures; promote programs and initiatives; conduct training; and participate as an effective team member.
  • Ability to read and interpret correspondence, plans, policies, procedures, and training materials. Ability to write / draft communications, resources, reports, and training resources.
  • Computer skills with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and wellness platforms.
  • Ability to travel within Waterloo Region.
  • Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
