Job descriptionStaff accommodation available Staff accommodation provided Remote location Command and operate ships or vessels to transport passengers and cargo Supervise and co-ordinate activities of deck crews Ensure safety and comfort of passengers Determine geographical position using navigational instruments, maps and charts Direct and oversee the loading and unloading of cargo Maintain vessel's navigational instruments and equipment Control, steer and navigate a vessel in various waterways Enforce regulations in Canadian waters Record vessel's progress, weather and sea conditions in ship's log Board vessels at berth or from pilot boats to advise ships' captains on the course to steer for safe passage into and out of ports, seaways or other waterways under pilotage authority 5-10 people Transport Canada Security Awareness Training for All Seafarers Transport Canada passenger safety management (PSM) course Watchkeeping Mate Certificate with Command Endorsement Marine Advanced First Aid Marine Emergency Duty (MED) Training Program Passenger ship Medical exam Travel expenses paid by employer Fast-paced environment Work under pressure Manual dexterity Attention to detail Large workload Efficient interpersonal skills Excellent oral communication Excellent written communication Organized Reliability Team player On-site housing options On-site recreation and activities Transportation provided by employer
