Credit Manager, Business Banking and Specialized Lending
DUCA is looking for a Credit Manager, Business Banking and Specialized Lending to join our growing team!
Job Purpose & Summary
The Credit Manager, Business Banking (also known as Small Business Banking in the financial services industry) and Specialized Lending is accountable for adjudicating small business Member loans and high net worth Member loans secured by investments and insurance through sound credit granting principles. Credit decisions will be kept within the parameters of DUCA’s risk appetite and tolerances, and comply with DUCA’s policies, procedures, and guidelines.
By developing strong relationships with both the Business Banking and Specialized Lending Teams (“Lending Team”) and external partners, this position ensures Member satisfaction and support the healthy and sustainable growth of DUCA’s Business Banking and Specialized Lending loan portfolio.
As a senior credit professional, this position is involved in monitoring market conditions and any regulatory changes that require changes to credit policies, procedures, and guidelines related to Business Banking and Specialized Lending.
Key Accountabilities & Duties
Review and adjudicate credit applications and transactions within assigned credit limits in a timely mannerProvide independent, objective reviews and approvals to credit applications and other matters which have been agreed to and / or recommended by the Lending TeamReview all loan applications and reviews prior to submission to senior management, to ensure the completion of due diligence and adherence to DUCA’s policies and guidelinesProvide decisions and approvals on adjudicated credit transactions / applications and communicate effectively with Management to ensure rationale and decision is clearly understoodReview commitment letters and draw requests to ensure credit terms and conditions are respectedWrite succinct credit memos or credit announcements to communicate credit perspective and rationale for new credits and credit extensionsCommunicate with the Lending Team about specific credit applications and transactions to seek further information and modifications, if needed; discuss appropriate structuring for the deal and criteria required for approval; ensure that all information is credible, accurate, and relevant, including analysis and evaluation of the technical aspects (e.g., financial analysis, credit terms, structure, and collateral)Respond to and resolve escalated issues raised by the Lending TeamSupport DUCA’s Lending Team to ensure Member satisfactionSupport the healthy and sustainable growth of a profitable Business Banking and Specialized Lending loan portfolio by ensuring the credit granting provided is within DUCA’s prescribed asset quality standardsProvide support, when needed, to review and adjudicate commercial credit requests including new credit requests and annual reviews for approval at the appropriate lending authority.Assess the impact of regulatory changes to existing policies, procedures and guidelines; monitor market conditions and make recommendations for enhancements to existing / creation of new policies, procedures and guidelinesProvide support in strategic projects, policy and process improvements initiatives related to Business Banking and Specialized LendingProvide additional coverage for Specialized Lending credit reviews, adjudication and other matters related to investment lendingOccupational Experience & Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in business or a related field; or equivalent work experience with small businesses and / or high net worth lending within the financial industryPursing or having a CFA / CGA / MBA is considered an assetMinimum 4-6 years Business Banking and / or high net worth lending underwriting / adjudicating experience is requiredMinimum 4 years knowledge of financial statement analysisFinancial Statement analysis experienceKnowledge, Skills & Attributes
Sound credit judgement with demonstrated ability to understand the risk return trade-off and come up with well thought-out solutions to mitigate credit riskAbility to articulate complex credit applications into succinct and balanced recommendationsKnowledge of various due diligence reports related to investment and insurance lending (Insurance Policies, Insurance Discussion Papers, Financial Statements, Tax Documents, Investment Statements, Pension Statements, etc.)Understanding of commitment letters and other legal documents from a credit perspectiveUnderstanding of Business Banking and high net worth banking / lending practices and end-to-end credit processUnderstanding and knowledge of Commercial credit an asset.Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to organize business information and develop it into cohesive, professional reports and presentationsAnalytical skills and exceptional attention to detailHighly developed critical thinking, problem-solving capabilities and excellent project management, planning, organizational, and time management skills with ability to handle complex multi-task assignmentsProficiency with MS Office Suite of products, including ExcelExperience working with a banking softwareAbility to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, under pressure and with time-sensitive deadlinesCollaborates well in a team environmentWorking Conditions

Salary : The annual salary range for this position is $80,494 to $100,617. Actual annual base salaries will vary depending on relevant job-related factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and education / training. This position may be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
