Our client is seeking a "hands-on" Controller with initiative to handle the day to day accounting functions including monthly financial statement for a leading multi-location company in the transportation industry.
Reporting to the Ownership Group, you will manage the financial reporting, accounting and office functions for 3 locations in a fast paced, detail oriented business.
Key responsibilities include :
- Lead and supervise the clerical team handling billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable and driver payroll.
- Preparation of the monthly financial statements.
- Reconciliation of bank accounts and review of accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Prepare, and remit payroll for drivers and office staff.
- Prepare and submit related government remittances including WCB, PST & GST.
- Cash flow management and forecasting.
- Managing the month-end process including reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries and bank reconciliations.
- Preparing of year-end financial statements and working papers for the external accountants.
- Communication with financial institutions and government agencies.
- Be the voice of finance throughout the company and ensure internal controls and accounting processes are strong to safeguard company assets.
- Coach and supervise the accounting clerical team across 3 locations.
- Special projects as part of the continued business growth.

What the successful candidate will bring :
A CPA designation or in final stages of program.5+ years of hands-on accounting and finance experience.Experience in the transportation industry would be helpful.Comfort and interest in role that combines hands-on accounting and higher level work including financial reporting and cash flow management.Experience in processing payroll for hourly and salary employees.Demonstrated ability to coach and supervise a junior accounting team.Must be a good problem solver and able to pivot quickly throughout the day to handle issues that might arise.High level skills in Microsoft Excel and previous experience with ERP systems.Possess a calm nature and ability to manage time effectively.The ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, staff and ownership.In return, you can expect :
