Overview
Parkland School Division (PSD) has a Temporary Part-Time (0.857 FTE) Education Assistant Certified position available at Duffield School in Duffield, Alberta. EXISTING PERMANENT EMPLOYEES : As an existing CUPE employee you are eligible to apply and, if successful, you will maintain permanent status. At the conclusion of the temporary position, you will be returned to the same or similar position (and at the same location, if possible) as you were previously in.
NEW EMPLOYEES : As a temporary employee you will not be eligible for leave entitlements and benefits. The provisions of the Collective Agreement apply to Temporary Employees, except as noted in Article 2.06 (Probationary Period, Seniority, Layoff and Recall, Sick Leave, Leave of Absence, Health Plan Benefits, Local Authorities Pension Plan).
Function and Purpose of Position
Educational Assistants II (EA II) assist teachers with instructional and non-instructional tasks in the classroom and with other school activities. EA II’s work as members of the school and student support teams. The minimum mandatory educational requirement is an Educational Assistant Certificate or comparable education. EA II’s may :
The EA II provides routine instructional support under the direction of the teacher, follows an individually prescribed learning program, and may engage in team planning and one-on-one work with students. This role includes routine recording, basic charting and logging of observations. EA II may provide personal care to students.

Education and Experience
a) Education
i) High School Diploma
ii) Teacher Assistant Certificate / Educational Assistant Certificate
ii) Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and First Aid Certificate (asset)

b) Experience
i) Training and experience with children with challenging behaviors; strong technology skills; ability to build relationships; team player

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes
Decision Making
EAs make decisions to support instructional plan implementation as directed by the teacher, including task sequencing, supervision of activities, and setup of instructional displays.
Working with Others
Typical contacts include : school staff, other schools, daily communication with students, and reporting observations to the teacher. Work is performed under supervision with directions provided during the work process.
Physical Demands
Work may involve lifting up to 35 lbs one-person and up to 50 lbs with assistance; use of mechanical lifts for heavier cases; assist with transfers and movement, kneeling, standing, and other positions to support student needs.
Working Conditions
Indoors except when supervising outdoors or on field trips. Ten-month contract; summer break not paid. Hours are position-specific; may require a personal vehicle.
Additional Information
Educational Assistants must respect confidentiality and personal integrity of students, parents, teachers and staff. This position requires an original copy of a current clean criminal record check with vulnerable sector and an original copy of a child intervention record check. This position is covered by the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 5543.
Hours and Pay
Hours : 30 hours / week (Monday to Friday, 8 : 00 am – 2 : 30 pm)
Pay : EA Certified : $25.35 – $28.39 / hr (Pay Group 3); EA Non-Certified : $24.17 – $26.98 / hr (Pay Group 2)
