Why this role is important?

Reporting into the Senior Director of Pharmacy Services and Pharmacy Care Clinics, this role provides leadership and national strategic direction for Pharmacy Care Clinics. The Director will drive initiatives focused on expanding and optimizing the offering of patient care services across Shoppers Drug Mart, with the goal of significantly enhancing access to high-quality patient care in the communities we serve.

Dimensions

This role drives initiatives that empower pharmacists and their teams. It requires significant cross-functional influence and collaboration to optimize clinic care delivery, establish best practices, and remove systemic barriers. The Director will champion the translation of critical field observations into strategic enhancements for processes, procedures, and systems across the organization, influencing national standards and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Program Development & Governance: Lead the strategic development, national implementation, and ongoing governance of Pharmacy Care Clinic services, ensuring robust alignment with evolving provincial regulations and national strategic objectives. Drive continuous innovation in service offerings.
  • National Field Engagement & Expert Coaching: Provide strategic oversight for national field engagement initiatives. Personally conduct high-impact pharmacy coaching visits across Canada (approximately 50% travel) to gather critical insights, provide peer to peer-level coaching, and ensure optimal, high-quality clinic care delivery.
  • Strategic Insights & Performance Reporting: Drive analysis of complex field observations and performance data to generate actionable strategic insights. Develop and present comprehensive reports and recommendations to senior leadership, identifying systemic challenges and opportunities for significant process, system, and procedural enhancements at a national level.
  • National Resource & Communication Strategy: Lead the development and dissemination of national resources, including comprehensive implementation guides, best practice documents, and strategic communications for new program launches, tools, and processes, ensuring consistent application and understanding across the entire network.
  • Innovation & Digital Transformation Leadership: Lead the innovation, evaluation, and enhancement of pharmacy services enablement tools, including digital platforms, advanced analytics, strategic marketing initiatives, and comprehensive documentation, driving digital transformation within clinic operations.
  • Financial Optimization & Performance Analytics: Oversee the strategic optimization of reporting frameworks to ensure accurate tracking of care delivery, and maximize reimbursement. Provide executive leadership in leveraging advanced data analytics to drive clinic optimization, monitor key performance indicators, and inform strategic decision-making to ensure efficient operations and superior patient outcomes across the national network.
  • National Training & Development Strategy: Design, develop, and lead the execution of national training and development programs for Pharmacy Assistants, Care Concierges, Pharmacists, Regional Directors, and Operations teams, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and leadership within the clinical services framework.
  • Strategic Project & Portfolio Management: Drive the strategic planning, execution, and oversight of a portfolio of complex, cross-functional projects, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and successful, timely completion with significant national impact.

Skills, Knowledge & Education

  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years progressive pharmacy experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or strategic role within a retail or clinical pharmacy setting. Extensive experience with Shoppers Drug Mart or Pharmaprix is a significant asset.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or PharmD.
  • Licensure: Must be a licensed pharmacist in Canada and hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Languages: Fully fluent in English, with advanced proficiency in both written and spoken communication. French language skills represent a significant advantage.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; demonstrated experience with advanced data analytics tools, business intelligence platforms, and executive-level presentation development is essential.
  • Business Acumen: Director-level business acumen, with proven track record in strategic planning, operational excellence, financial stewardship, and driving significant business growth.
  • Problem Solving: Exceptional ability to innovate and apply creative, strategic problem-solving approaches to enhance national processes and achieve ambitious organizational goals.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with ability to convey complex strategic information clearly and persuasively to diverse senior audiences.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Demonstrated leadership, with exceptional ability to influence, negotiate, and build consensus among diverse senior stakeholders. Proven track record of leading complex cross-functional initiatives and fostering high-performing teams.
