Distribution Designer

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Distribution Designer to join a growing, Richmond-based electrical utility engineering firm serving major BC Hydro projects . This role blends overhead and underground distribution design , giving you hands-on ownership of utility files while developing toward P.Eng. designation.

Responsibilities

Lead design for overhead and underground distribution infrastructure, including pole renewals, line extensions, and customer connections.

Run SPIDAcalc modeling and structural analysis for pole loading, guying, and framing.

Support underground distribution design, including customer vaults and related utility infrastructure.

Prepare full design packages (tender, IFC, as-built), layouts, calculations, and markups for drafting teams.

Coordinate permits and approvals with municipalities, MoTI, BC Hydro, rail, and pipeline stakeholders.

Conduct site visits to verify conditions, support construction, and resolve field inquiries.

Collaborate with PMs, Engineers of Record, and multidisciplinary teams to meet project schedules and budgets.

Assist with documentation including technical reports, specifications, tender documents, and project calculations.

Qualifications

Post-secondary diploma or engineering degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

3+ years of utility distribution design experience with strong overhead exposure.

Familiarity with BC Hydro standards and distribution processes.

Proficiency in utility design calculations and drafting tools.

Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Registered EIT or P.Eng. with EGBC.

Experience with SPIDAcalc and / or PLS-CADD.

Experience designing distribution voltage customer vaults.

Ability to independently manage design files from concept through construction.
