Human Resources Generalist

Job Summary :

As a team member in the Human Resources Department, the Human Resources Generalist will report to the Director of Corporate Services. This position focuses on the day-to-day operation of the Human Resources department and assists the Director of Corporate Services.

The Human Resources Generalist is expected to promote the organizational values of respect, integrity, diversity, inclusivity, equity, anti-oppression, anti-racism, accountability, and professionalism.

Core Competencies : Education :

Bachelor’s degree or college diploma related to the functions of this position.
Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is considered an asset.

Experience :

Up to two (2) years related experience in human resources.

Personal :

As a requirement of employment, all applicants must have a Canadian Social Insurance Number.

Satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Record Check.

Other :

Preference will be given to those who identify as First Nations, Inuit and Métis; African Canadian / Black heritage; or other racially marginalized persons who meet the educational requirements, skills and competencies, or who have equivalent education and experience.

The ability to communicate in both official languages will be considered an asset in this role.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities :

Data entry and management of information in the HRIS regarding new hires, status changes, leaves, and maintain HRIS with regards to overtime.

Prepare all letters for employee correspondence.

Ensure proper process for union employees’ vacation selection process.

Active involvement with the recruitment process from screening to onboarding.

Conduct research and collect employee data in order to compile various required statistical monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually reports for the Board of Directors or the Ontario Association of the Children’s Aid Societies.

Update the organizational chart as required.

Fulfill the training liaison responsibilities with OACAS.

Coordinate car seat certification and clinics for employees.

Interpret and implement the appropriate steps in order to respect the various articles of the collective agreement.

Ensure HR website development on intranet, including updating and maintaining the site with information regarding the Human Resources department.

Maintain the departments database for resumes.

Communicate and administer the Employee and Family Assistance Program.

Other related duties as requested by the Director of Human Resources.

Demonstrated ability to identify systemic barriers to equity and anti-oppressive practices and apply this lens to the work.

Knowledge, experience, and understanding of the culture, history and current issues / oppression experienced by First Nations, Inuit and Métis; those of African Canadian / Black heritage; and other racially marginalized persons in our community.

Knowledge of First Nations, Inuit and Métis history, people and communities and a demonstrated ability to engage with the communities.

Excellent communication skills.

Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office : Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Internet programs as well as Human Resources Information Systems.

Demonstrated knowledge of labour relations and must show good judgement in applying organizational policies and procedures as well as the current collective agreement.

Demonstrated knowledge of employment legislation such as the Ontario Employment Standards Act, as well as other related legislation (such as Human Rights and the Occupational Health & Safety Act).

Demonstrated affinity with numbers and strong ability to work within a multi-service team.

Ability to work as a team member.

Excellent customer service.

Demonstrated ability to plan, organise and analyse.

Attention to detail to ensure data integrity.

Demonstrated ability to be discreet and maintain the confidentiality of all employee information.

Ability to stay updated on laws and regulations to ensure compliance and advise on necessary changes.

Commitment to improving, developing, and implementing Truth and Reconciliation, anti-oppression, and anti-racism practices in our organization.

Understanding their privilege, recognizes their bias, and integrates the Agency’s mission, commitments and declarations into their work.

Efforts and Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in a normal office environment with regular meetings with members of the CASSDG team.

Long periods of sitting and computer / phone use.

Multi-tasks within a fast-paced, high-volume and demanding environment.

Required to listen to and reconcile multiple points of view being discussed / presented.

Regularly works in emotionally charged situations requiring resolution.
