The result : a quality product that’s built right – the first time.About The RoleThe High-Risk Equipment Safety Manager, working in partnership with Field Operations Managers, Health & Safety Managers, and the Director of Health & Safety, is responsible to oversee and audit the installation, use, and maintenance of high-risk equipment life safety systems across our sites. The position will support Construction Operations in the field, ensuring necessary support, guidance and oversight for worker and project safety through all phases of construction. The High-Risk Equipment Safety Manager shall ensure Company Occupational Health and Safety processes and procedures are followed, regulatory compliance is maintained, training and workforce competencies are assured, and comprehensive inspection and auditing processes for continuous improvement are implemented and followed.Key ResponsibilitiesWorks directly with stakeholders in pre-construction to understand project limitations and advise on options as they pertain to the erection and operation of Tower Cranes and requirements for other high-risk equipment and life safety systems;Leads detailed hazard assessments, including task analysis, the management of risk and the implementation of existing and newly identified control measures to improve safety in the management of high-risk equipment and life safety;Ensures that Notice of Project – Tower Crane is dutifully submitted to WorkSafeBC for all new crane erections across all Company projects;Attends, and leads the discussion in meetings between the Company and relevant stakeholders in the planning, erection, operation, maintenance and take-down of the Tower Crane for each project;Engages with Operations and Safety staff in the field to develop and advise on Company standards and best practices for the management of life safety systems (e.g. horizontal / vertical netting, engineered fall protection systems, etc.);Engages with Operations and Safety staff in the field to develop and advise on Company standards and best practices for the management of high-risk equipment (e.g. construction hoists, placing booms, thrust out platforms, etc.);Facilitates project safety program improvements by assisting with project audits, reviewing findings, working towards the implementation of changes, and instructing all project staff on required actions related to high-risk equipment and life safety systems;Manages a system to ensure the qualifications and competency of all crane operators and riggers is assured across all operations;Partners with Formworks Operations personnel, providing coaching and mentorship in understanding legislative and internal policy changes for safety in the management of high-risk equipment and life-safety systems.What You BringThe ideal candidate for the High Risk Equipment Safety Manager role is someone who is a subject matter expert on tower cranes. You are comfortable walking a site, climbing a crane and creating safety programs. Drawing upon your extensive background in the construction industry, you are able to advise and recommend improvements to all high-risk equipment use.Skills and ExperienceFive or more (5+) years related experience in a safety position acquired in a construction setting (residential, commercial, institutional, or industrial settings);National Construction Safety Officer or similar accreditation through a recognized training authority;Additional training in safety an asset including but not limited to, WHMIS, CSTS, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform etc.;Thorough knowledge of all applicable Provincial legislation regarding Occupational Health and Safety;Familiar with reading engineered drawings, including detailed equipment and formwork drawings required to ensure life safety;Effective time management, organizational and problem-solving skills, including an understanding of accident prevention and cause analysis;Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills. Must be able to coach, facilitate and influence a cultural and behavioral change in the workplace regarding safety;Post-secondary Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety an asset.Your RewardsWe’re committed to the success and development of our people and recognize that they are the drivers behind our success.
