One-On-One Support Worker

Job Summary.

The One-on-One Support Worker works “one on one” with a Hope’s Home child with complex medical and behavioral needs and is fundamental in helping the child learn, grow, and reach their full potential. Through their daily interaction with the child, they build and maintain a warm, caring, trusting and responsive relationship. They work closely with the Hope’s Home team and outside professionals and help create and implement the child’s individualized program plan that supports the child’s developmental goals and objectives. This position reports to the Early Learning & Childcare Manager and does not have any direct reports.

Responsibilities.

Operational Duties.

  • Implement the Behavioural Intervention Plan (BIP), routines, and therapies outlined by medical professionals.
  • Give feedback on effectiveness of BIP and make recommendations for adjustments to Recreational Programmers and outside professionals.
  • Document all behaviors and debrief with leadership team.
  • Attend specialized behavioural training.
  • Attend to child’s personal care duties for example: dressing, feeding, personal hygiene, toilet training.
  • Perform general cleaning duties such as laundry, cleaning/sterilizing toys, dishes etc.
  • Prepare dietician approved meals as directed by the Recreation Programmer.
  • Support the nurses with all medical interventions.
  • Transport children in Hope’s Home vehicle (safely secure in accessible vehicles) or accompany on booked transportation.
  • Maintain and update communication books with schools and/or daycare.
  • Provide information and observations to leadership team regarding progress towards development goals and care plans.
  • Complete appointment log and communicate important information regarding child to the team.
  • Supervise and support the child during cultural and recreational activities (in and outside the home).
  • Sign off on daily therapy checklists and required documentation
  • Work with the Recreational Programmer to understand each child’s goals and implement and document the daily activities to enhance child’s growth and meet established goals.
  • Implement the therapies as directed by the Recreation Programmer and outside professionals.
  • Train on and use on all adaptive equipment and technologies.
  • Train on and use all adaptive equipment and technologies and physical therapy stretches.
  • Under the direction of the Recreation Programmer, incorporate the adaptive equipment in daily activities with the children.
  • Communicate any deficiencies or adjustments that need to be made to adaptive equipment.
  • Collaborate daily with the floor team to understand the programming needs and adaptations required of each child.
  • Implement the programs developed by the Recreation Programmer.
  • Assist the Recreation Programmer to create an environment that promotes the development of all children’s physical, emotional, social, communicative, cognitive, and creative skills, while preserving their safety, health and well-being.
  • Attend appointments and family visits as directed by the Recreation Programmer.
  • Participate in meetings with caregivers and professionals as required.
  • Promotes inclusion through engaging children’s interactions with one another and involvement in the community.
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships with the team, families, outside agencies, and community services.
  • Ensure ratios and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) points are being maintained throughout the day.
  • Participate in on-going professional development, training, and staff meetings.

Occupational Health and Safety.

  • Create a psychologically safe work environment (resolve conflicts in respectful ways and ensure a fair resolution, provide an environment where employees feel safe and supported to share ideas, listen, learn from, and seek to understand the ideas of others).
  • Complete all required OHS training.
  • Monitor, report and resolve any safety hazards in the work environment.

Qualifications.

  • Minimum Grade 12 with minimum 3 years experience working with diverse needs.
  • First Aid/CPR Training.
  • Working towards completion of at least one of the following programs: Continuing Care Aid Certification Disability Support Worker Program Education Assistant Program Rehabilitation Worker Program Recreational Therapist Program Kinesiology Degree- Adaptive Physical Activity Early Childhood Education Level I Other relevant and applicable education focused on diverse needs Other relevant and applicable education
  • The following experience and knowledge are assets: Experience working with children with diverse needs Gentle Teaching Training Valid drivers license Knowledge of adaptive equipment MANDT System or PART training Transfer, Lifting, and Reposition (TLR) training Sign Language training Back to Basics training Lifeguard Certification

Skills and Abilities.

  • Ability to work with children of all ages and abilities.
  • Ability to receive instruction, implement and receive feedback.
  • Able to work independently and as a team player.
  • Strong collaborator and communicator (both verbal and written) with staff, families, and outside agencies.
  • Ability to remain calm, resourceful, and efficient in high stress situations.
  • Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to observe and accurately assess children, the environment and daily program effectiveness.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changes in the work environment.

Working Conditions.

  • Day shifts, evening shifts or night shifts
  • Must be available to work weekends
  • Work with children with behaviourally diverse needs that can act out physically and verbally.
  • Physically able to safely work with objects or persons of varying sizes: Handling ~100 lbs occasionally ~50 lbs regularly; and ~25 lbs continuously.
  • Physical position changes consistently throughout the day (sitting, standing, kneeling etc).
  • Fast paced, noisy environment.
  • Work with adaptive equipment and technologies.
  • Work outdoors with the children in all types of weather conditions.
  • Exposure to: cleaning chemicals and products blood and body fluids

Job Type: Temporary Part Time

Term End Date: June 30, 2026 with possibility of extension

Number of Available Positions: 1

Shifts:

  • Monday to Friday
  • 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on school days
  • 8 hour shifts during the summer and on PD Days

Location: Regina South Early Learning & Childcare Centre

Wage: $19.38 to $26.22/hr
