- Significant experience designing, building, and operating complex production software, with independent technical judgment and ownership of challenging engineering problems.
- Advanced knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, object-oriented programming, and distributed systems, including design principles, architectural patterns, concurrency, and API design.
- Extensive hands-on AWS experience spanning architecture, networking, security, deployment, and operations.
- Strong PostgreSQL skills, including relational data modeling, SQL optimization, and database performance.
- Production experience with React, Next.js, TypeScript, and React Native.
- Experience improving existing codebases and reducing technical debt, supported by automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and production troubleshooting.
- Practical experience with AI coding assistants, including context management, model selection, and efficient use of tokens.
- Experience with healthcare or insurance data, privacy, consent, and security requirements is valued.
- Familiarity with event-driven or batch data pipelines and large relational datasets is valued.
- Experience mentoring engineers and raising team standards is valued.
Responsibilities:
- Design, review, and evolve system architecture with clear component boundaries, well-defined interfaces, suitable abstractions, and minimal coupling.
- Apply separation of concerns, design patterns, and established engineering practices consistently.
- Refactor existing systems, reduce technical debt, simplify complex code, and improve structure, readability, and maintainability.
- Build Java and Spring Boot services, REST APIs, integrations, and distributed systems.
- Architect, deploy, secure, troubleshoot, and optimize AWS infrastructure and cloud-native applications.
- Design and improve PostgreSQL databases, including data models, indexes, queries, transactions, and data integrity.
- Develop and maintain web and mobile applications using React, Next.js, TypeScript, and React Native.
- Establish unit, integration, and end-to-end testing practices, and design software for testability.
- Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks, production defects, scaling challenges, and reliability issues.
- Improve CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, automated quality checks, monitoring, and deployment processes.
- Use AI coding tools effectively, with disciplined context and token management and careful validation of generated code.
- Take ownership of technical decisions and solutions throughout their lifecycle, from design to production operations.
- In the first 30 days, learn the platform and its history, deliver small changes through the full pipeline, and document potential improvements.
- By 60 days, lead an architectural improvement or refactor from start to finish, with testing and monitoring in place.
- By 90 days, take ownership of a core service or product area and establish practices and quality gates adopted by the team.

More:
This is a hands-on, full-stack engineering role focused on evolving Navierres platform to be reliable, maintainable, secure, and performant. Our technology stack includes Java, Spring Boot, AWS, PostgreSQL, React, Next.js, TypeScript, and React Native, and we use AI-assisted development tools. Engineering leadership owns the roadmap; the role works with Applied AI, Solutions & Delivery, and Product. We assess success through production reliability and performance, safe delivery, reduction of technical debt, and the quality of architectural decisions. Compensation is $100,000–$145,000 per year, and the work location is in person. Applicants are asked to provide a resume and examples of production systems they designed or improved, clearly describing their contributions.
