Personal Support Worker
Job Description
Stellar Personnel is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Personal Support Worker (PSW) to provide personalized care and companionship to a private client living with dementia in Surrey, British Columbia.
In this role, you will help promote the client's independence, dignity, comfort, and safety while supporting their daily activities in a caring and nurturing environment. If you are passionate about making a meaningful difference in someone's life, we encourage you to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one companionship to the client in a memory care facility.
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and transferring the wheelchair-bound client to activities while maintaining comfort and safety.
- Serve and assist the client with meals and snacks prepared by kitchen staff and/or family members.
- Collaborate with medical staff, housekeeping staff, and family members in supporting individualized care plans tailored to the client's needs and goals.
- Follow the established daily routine, including meal and activity schedules.
- Maintain a calm, safe, and cheerful environment that supports the client's physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Qualifications and Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience as a Personal Support Worker or in a similar role.
- Previous experience working with individuals living with Alzheimer's disease or dementia.
- A certificate or diploma in Personal Support Work or a related healthcare field from an accredited institution is preferred.
- A valid PSW certification or licence, where applicable, is preferred.
- Physical strength and emotional stamina to assist clients with dementia and mobility challenges and perform manual handling tasks.
- A valid First Aid and CPR certificate is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with family members and other staff.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
