Environmental and Regulatory Permitting Manager-(15537)

Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Manager, Environment and Regulatory Permitting, you will play a strategic role in the development of the Nelligan Mining Complex. Reporting to the Project Studies Director, you will guide environmental and regulatory activities from studies through project execution, advancing approvals, integrating leading environmental practices, and proactively managing risks that could affect the project schedule, feasibility, or social acceptability.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead governance of the project’s environmental and regulatory approval processes, track the regulatory critical path, and provide leadership with clear visibility into permit status, issues, and risks.

  • Oversee consultants responsible for impact studies, environmental assessments, and permit applications while ensuring alignment between technical studies and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop strategies to reduce regulatory barriers, anticipate risks, and support progress against the project’s development objectives.

  • Direct the identification, assessment, and mitigation of environmental risks affecting feasibility or social acceptability, including biodiversity, water management, and mine tailings.

  • Collaborate with the community relations lead and engage with local and Indigenous communities to incorporate stakeholder concerns into environmental strategies and plans.

  • Promote ESG principles, monitor evolving industry practices, and contribute to continuous improvement in the project’s environmental performance.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, geography, environmental engineering, earth sciences, or a related discipline.

  • Eight to twelve years of experience in environmental management, permitting, and regulatory processes, including significant experience in mining, industrial, or natural resources environments.

  • Demonstrated experience managing environmental impact assessment processes, major development projects, and multidisciplinary consulting firms.

  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements for mining and industrial projects and leading practices in biodiversity, sustainable water management, mine tailings, and low-impact design.

  • Experience integrating environmental considerations into engineering and construction activities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French, supported by strong analytical, strategic planning, and risk management capabilities.

  • Proven ability to influence, mobilise, and build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders; membership in a relevant professional order is an asset.
