Family Law Associate
About the Role:
A growing full-service law firm is seeking an experienced Family Law Associate to join its legal team in Chilliwack, British Columbia. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with 3+ years of post-call experience who is passionate about family law and committed to delivering practical, client-focused legal services.
The successful candidate will manage family law matters, conduct legal research, prepare agreements and court documents, communicate with clients and opposing counsel, and represent clients in court proceedings. This role offers the opportunity to work within a supportive, collaborative team while continuing to develop legal expertise and build meaningful client relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and other legal professionals.
- Conduct legal research and analyze applicable legislation, regulations, and case law.
- Review and analyze evidence to identify key legal issues, relevant facts, and potential arguments.
- Draft, review, and prepare legal agreements, pleadings, applications, and other court documents.
- Prepare for and attend court hearings and other legal proceedings.
- Manage files from initial assessment through resolution, ensuring accurate documentation and timely follow-up.
- Monitor deadlines and manage competing priorities across multiple family law matters.
- Provide clear, practical legal advice and maintain consistent communication with clients.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop effective legal strategies and deliver high-quality client service.
- Maintain professional standards, accuracy, and confidentiality throughout all aspects of legal practice.
- Work additional hours when necessary to address urgent client needs and deadlines.
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-call legal experience.
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
- Experience handling family law matters and managing legal files.
- Strong legal research, analytical, drafting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple matters while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a supportive legal team.
- Strong professional judgment, attention to detail, and commitment to client service.
- Flexibility to work additional hours when urgent matters arise.
