Long Term Substitute – Reading Focus – Silver Creek MS – Full Time

We need a long‑term substitute teacher for this position until a certified reading teacher can be hired. This position is responsible for teaching 4 sections of Developmental Reading 2 and 1 section of Alternative 1 student support.

Summary Description

Under direction of the school principal, plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure Success for Every Student. Supervises students in a variety of school related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community. Developing and modifying instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.

Responsibilities

Planning and providing appropriate learning experiences for students. Supervising and monitoring students. Communicating and interacting with students, parents, staff, and community. Developing and modifying instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintaining records and following required procedures and practices.

Special Requirements

Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

Knowledge Skills Abilities

Knowledge of MCPS curriculum and policies, teaching and learning process, multicultural education and technology integration. Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school staff, students, parents and community. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.

Education Training Experience

Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or meets Maryland state certification requirements in appropriate field of education.
