Summary
MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Quarry Manager on behalf of our client for their limestone quarry operations in Exshaw, Alberta.
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Quarry Manager will lead approximately 10 employees and take responsibility for the safe, efficient, and sustainable operation of the quarry. This includes mine planning, drilling and blasting, production, crushing, equipment performance, budgeting, cost management, environmental compliance, and team leadership.
This role requires a true open-pit, hard-rock mining background. The successful candidate will have the technical knowledge to understand where and how to mine, execute long-term mine plans, manage drilling and blasting activities, and ensure a consistent supply of quality limestone to plant operations. Candidates from limestone, aggregates, gold, copper, or other hard-rock open-pit operations will be considered.

Responsibilities

Lead the safe and efficient operation of the limestone quarry, including production, drilling, blasting, crushing, and material handling.

Manage and develop a team of approximately 10 employees, setting clear expectations and providing ongoing coaching and feedback.

Direct quarry and mining activities to ensure a reliable supply of high-quality raw materials to plant operations.

Review, confirm, and execute long-term mine plans, ensuring adequate reserves and material quality.

Plan and oversee blast layouts and patterns, drilling activities, and blasting operations.

Execute quarry reclamation plans and support long-term quarry development.

Develop crushing strategies for limestone and other raw materials and resolve material handling challenges.

Monitor daily production, staffing, safety, training, equipment performance, and operational requirements.

Manage quarry operating costs, budgets, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Identify opportunities to reduce operating costs and reliance on third-party services.

Oversee mobile equipment maintenance, including maintenance planning, scheduling, budgets, and costs.

Work closely with Plant Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Environmental teams to align quarry activities with current and future plant requirements.

Provide visible leadership in health, safety, and environmental performance.

Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Identify operational and environmental risks and implement appropriate mitigation and improvement initiatives.

Support the implementation of new technologies, operational best practices, and standardized work processes.

Contribute as a member of the Plant Leadership Team and support broader operational and business objectives.
Qualifications - Must-Haves

Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Minimum 5–8 years of relevant mining experience, including experience managing mining or quarry operations.

Strong technical background in open-pit, hard-rock mining or quarry operations.

Hands-on experience with mine planning, drilling, blasting, production, and crushing operations.

Strong understanding of how to develop and execute mine plans based on reserves, geology, material quality, and production requirements.

Experience managing quarry or mine operating budgets and controlling operational costs.
-
Experience leading, managing, and developing operational employees.
-
Strong understanding of health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements within a mining or quarry environment.

Experience coordinating mobile equipment requirements and maintenance activities.
-
Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
-
Ability to work on-site in Exshaw, Alberta on a daily basis.

Currently authorized to work for any employer in Canada.
Nice-to-Haves

Mining Engineering degree.

Direct experience managing a limestone quarry.

Experience within aggregates, cement, gold, copper, or another hard-rock open-pit mining environment.

Strong Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills.

International hard-rock mining experience combined with current Canadian work authorization.
