Job description

Manager, Government Relations Ottawa | Hybrid StrategyCorp is seeking a Government Relations Manger to join our Ottawa team. WHO WE ARE StrategyCorp is a consulting firm delivering integrated government relations, strategic communications, and management consulting services.

With offices in Toronto and Ottawa, we serve clients across Canada and internationally. Our integrated approach means we advise clients on their business objectives while navigating and influencing the political environments that affect them.

We are results-driven, analytical, and committed to the highest standards of ethics, compliance, and confidentiality.

We combine deep knowledge of government with strategic insight to help our clients advance their objectives and create the conditions for success. THE OPPORTUNITY As a Manager in our Federal Government Relations practice, you will lead client engagements, interpret political and policy developments, and turn insight into practical strategies that advance client objectives.

You will be expected to take ownership of files, build trusted relationships, provide clear strategic advice, and keep work moving from analysis through execution. You will also support the growth of our Ottawa business and help develop junior team members.

Success in this role will be grounded in six core capabilities that define strong Federal Government Relations consulting at StrategyCorp. THE SIX CAPABILITIES YOU WILL BRING: Strategic Thinking & Judgment : You look beyond the immediate task, connect complex information, identify what matters, and apply sound judgment to recommend what the client should do next. Political Acumen & Intelligence: You understand how federal institutions, political actors, public servants, policy processes, and stakeholder dynamics shape decisions.

You translate political developments into timely, actionable intelligence for clients. Client Strategy & Advisory: You understand the client's objectives, frame issues clearly, develop practical government relations strategies, and provide confident, solutions-oriented advice to senior decision-makers. Relationships & Networks : You build and sustain trusted relationships across government, politics, clients, colleagues, and stakeholder communities.

You actively expand your own network and use two-way intelligence exchange to strengthen client outcomes. Execution & File Leadership: You take the reins on client files, anticipate next steps, coordinate people and deliverables, manage competing priorities, and follow through reliably on timelines, budgets, and commitments. Communication & Digital Effectiveness: You produce clear, concise, audience-centred writing and briefings.

You use digital tools, including AI where appropriate, to improve efficiency while maintaining strong judgment, accuracy, confidentiality, and quality control. WHAT YOU WILL DO Lead client engagements and develop integrated government relations, advocacy, and public policy strategies aligned with client objectives. Monitor and analyze political, legislative, regulatory, and policy developments; connect the dots across issues and assess implications, risks, and opportunities for clients. Provide clear, well-reasoned strategic advice and recommendations to clients, executives, and other senior decision-makers. Engage with elected officials, political staff, public servants, and external stakeholders, and generate useful intelligence through those relationships. Own client files from planning through delivery by setting priorities, coordinating teams, maintaining quality, and ensuring deadlines and budgets are met. Prepare and edit high-quality briefing materials, presentations, proposals, submissions, and client communications. Mentor Associates and Consultants by providing direction, feedback, context, and opportunities to develop their judgment and consulting capabilities. Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities, supporting proposals, strengthening client relationships, and helping grow StrategyCorp's Federal business. Maintain the highest standards of ethics, lobbying compliance, confidentiality, and professional judgment. KEY EXPERIENCE 5-7 years of relevant experience in government relations, public affairs, politics, public policy, consulting, or a related field. Strong first-hand knowledge of the federal government, its institutions, decision-making processes, and the broader Canadian political and public policy landscape. Experience developing and executing government relations, advocacy, or public policy strategies and presenting strategic advice to clients, executives, or senior decision-makers. Experience leading client files, projects, or teams while managing competing priorities, timelines, deliverables, and budgets. Demonstrated experience building relationships with elected officials, political staff, senior public servants, clients, and external stakeholders. At least two years of experience leading teams and/or mentoring and developing junior team members. Undergraduate degree in political science, public policy, Canadian studies, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. ADDITIONAL STRENGTHS Exceptional writing, editing, briefing, and presentation skills, with superior attention to detail. Curiosity, learning agility, initiative, and the drive to achieve results for clients. Confidence working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced consulting environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and sound judgment when using digital and AI-enabled tools. ASSETS Experience working within the federal government, Parliament, a Ministerial or elected official's office, political campaigns, or a government relations/public affairs consultancy. An established network within the federal government and broader Ottawa political and public policy community. Eligibility to undertake, and experience with, registrable lobbying activities federally and/or provincially. French-language proficiency. Experience working across multiple levels of government. WHAT WE OFFER Competitive annual salary ($100,000-$120,000 CAD). Hybrid work environment. Career development opportunities. Health benefits and Wellness Account. Four weeks vacation, flex days, and an extended holiday break. Parental Leave Top-up. Phone and data allowance. A collaborative and supportive team environment. A BIT MORE ABOUT US At StrategyCorp, strategy is at the foundation of everything we do.

By integrating management consulting, government relations, and strategic communications, we help clients navigate both the substance of their business challenges and the political environments that shape them. We bring together bright, diverse perspectives and value thoughtful, well-informed opinions.

Rather than relying on quick or simplistic answers, we rigorously assess the issues, opportunities, and scenarios facing our clients to deliver strategic, results-driven advice. We are trusted to achieve outcomes and are passionate about winning for our clients. Above all, we protect our reputation and that of our clients by upholding the highest standards of ethics, compliance, and confidentiality. INTERESTED?
