Adecco is currently hiring a full-time Project Controls Specialist on behalf of our client in Fort McMurray, AB. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced project controls professional with expertise in cost control, estimating, project scheduling, forecasting, benchmarking, and project performance management within large-scale industrial, energy, engineering, construction, or capital projects environments.
In this role, you will support the successful planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting of capital projects by providing accurate estimates, maintaining project schedules, analyzing project performance, managing costs, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. You will work closely with project managers, engineering teams, construction teams, contractors, and key stakeholders to ensure projects remain aligned with business objectives, schedules, and budgets.
- Payrate : $60- $80/hour
- Location: Fort McMurray, AB
- Shift: Monday to Friday | 8 hours per day
- Job type: Temporary 12 months with potential of extension| Full-time

Responsibilities:
Cost Estimating & Project Controls
- Develop and maintain project cost estimates for projects valued up to $100M.
- Ensure estimates align with project scope, schedule, business objectives, and industry best practices.
- Support project cost forecasting and variance analysis.
- Review and evaluate project changes, trends, and extra work requests.
- Prepare cost estimates and assess financial impacts of project changes.
Project Scheduling & Planning
- Develop, update, and maintain project schedules throughout all project phases.
- Incorporate resource-loaded schedules for tracking and reporting purposes.
- Monitor project progress and performance against established baselines.
- Support planning activities and schedule optimization initiatives.
- Analyze schedule impacts and communicate risks to project stakeholders.
Cost Management & Reporting
- Maintain project cost control systems and methodologies.
- Prepare, consolidate, and analyze project reports for leadership teams.
- Compare planned, actual, incurred, and forecast costs and hours.
- Identify and explain cost and schedule variances.
- Ensure project data is accurate, complete, and delivered on time.
Change Management & Benchmarking
- Analyze contractor change proposals and compare them against engineering and construction work packages.
- Support the evaluation of scope changes and execution impacts.
- Develop benchmarking analyses using internal and external data sources.
- Perform cost and performance benchmarking to support project decision-making.
- Use data analysis techniques to identify trends, opportunities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Project Performance Support
- Assist with engineering and construction progress audits.
- Support project setup and closeout activities.
- Ensure proper documentation and project benchmarking requirements are maintained.
- Escalate concerns and risks to leadership as required.
- Provide recommendations to improve project performance and cost outcomes.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong understanding of estimating, scheduling, forecasting, and project controls principles.
- Experience analyzing cost, schedule, and performance metrics.
- Ability to interpret engineering and construction documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- AACEI Certified Cost Professional (CCP) designation is considered a strong asset.
- Additional project controls, estimating, scheduling, or project management certifications are advantageous.
- 5-7 years of experience in Project Controls, Cost Control, Project Planning & Scheduling, Capital Projects, Estimating, Project Performance Management
- Experience supporting industrial, oil & gas, mining, energy, infrastructure, engineering, or construction projects preferred.
- Experience with project forecasting, reporting, and earned value principles considered an asset.
- Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, Finance, Economics or related discipline
- Must be legally eligible to work, and reside in Canada
