Job description

Our client is looking for an experienced and proactive Emergency Response & Fire Protection Officer to oversee and elevate emergency preparedness, occupational health, and fire safety across their facilities. In this vital role, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the site's Incident Command System, managing emergency preparedness programs, ensuring full compliance with national fire and safety regulations, and building strong relationships with local first responders.

Responsibilities
• Manage the Emergency Preparedness and Response Program (EPRP), lead the site Emergency Response Team, oversee Emergency Operations Center (EOC) readiness, and act as Incident Commander during site emergencies. • Develop and deliver Incident Command System-based emergency training, communicate program expectations, and coach personnel across all organizational levels.
• Update and enforce emergency management and fire protection policies, conduct site audits and inspections, document deficiencies, and coordinate corrective actions.
• Serve as the Fire Safety Director, oversee fire safety system inspections, manage controls on combustible materials and ignition sources, and coordinate with specialized service providers and fire consultants.
• Ensure adequate First Aid coverage, conduct room inspections, maintain supplies, and coordinate the activities and training of designated First Aid Attendants.
• Maintain relationships, MOUs, and joint training exercises with local fire, ambulance, and public safety agencies.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or a formal certification in Emergency Management.
• 2–3 years of mid-level experience in emergency preparedness, fire protection, or safety management within a regulated facility or technical environment.
• Working knowledge of regional occupational health and safety regulations (e.g., WorkSafeBC), national fire codes, and industry best practices.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and safety/data management software.
• Strong analytical capabilities, excellent attention to detail, and top-tier communication skills for management briefings and incident reporting.
• Proven ability to work independently, lead cross-functional teams, and build cooperative relationships using tact and diplomacy.
