Job description

Are you a highly skilled Trade Specialist looking to advance your career in business administration and customs compliance? We are currently seeking an experienced Trade Specialist for a permanent, full-time position located in Mississauga, Ontario. Operating on a standard Monday to Friday schedule from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, this opportunity features a hybrid work model requiring three days at the office. If you are passionate about global logistics, import/export documentation, and ensuring full adherence to Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) regulations, this Trade Specialist opportunity is the perfect match for you.

As a Trade Specialist, your central objective is to ensure full compliance with CBSA regulations. This highly specialized business administration role involves classifying goods using Harmonized System (HS) codes, preparing and managing critical import/export documentation, calculating duties and taxes, and leveraging trade agreements such as CUSMA to optimize shipments. The Trade Specialist ensures smooth cross-border operations and the timely movement of goods, functioning as a vital link between suppliers, internal teams, and customs brokers. Aligning with industry standards, you will prepare customs documentation and ensure that shipments meet all applicable laws to facilitate the import and export of goods. The meticulous nature of this work ensures that costly delays, penalties, and supply chain disruptions are avoided. Furthermore, as international trade agreements continue to evolve, the Trade Specialist acts as the frontline defense and strategic advisor, ensuring that all business administration practices remain fully compliant and economically advantageous.

In this Trade Specialist role, you will immerse yourself in the fast-paced world of customs brokerage and consulting. Your business administration skills will be put to the test as you monitor changes in customs laws, tariffs, trade agreements, and government regulations, sharing vital updates internally. A successful Trade Specialist is adept at assessing risks, troubleshooting issues, and implementing solutions for both routine and complex customs-related matters. You will also support the development and execution of AMR customs compliance processes, metrics, and reporting. By analyzing import reports and in-house customs systems, the Trade Specialist identifies risks, deficiencies, and opportunities for process improvement. The continuous improvement of these processes is a cornerstone of effective business administration. As a Trade Specialist, you will spearhead initiatives that not only ensure adherence to the law but also streamline operational workflows.

While English is the primary language required for this role to effectively interact with international suppliers, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), and various professional organizations, bilingualism (English and French) is always considered a strong asset in the Canadian business administration landscape. Excellent communication skills are required to seamlessly interact with all employees, management, executives, and various vendors or subcontractors.

The work environment for this Trade Specialist position is a standard office environment, not subject to noise or significant hazards. However, it does involve some stress related to tight deadlines and multiple or conflicting tasks. As a Trade Specialist immersed in business administration, you will find that this environment nurtures both your analytical capabilities and your strategic foresight.

Find the right job, love what you do, and develop your career. With access to a wide range of roles with top employers, a global community of professional peers, and specialized training and support, we’ll be your guiding partner and help you build a rewarding career.
