Job description

Location: Downtown Toronto, ON (4 days/week onsite)

Contract: 6 months, with opportunity for extension

Position Overview

Collabera is seeking a QA Automation Developer to join the Public Markets Technology - Total Fund Management Trading team at an investment Industry.

This is an Individual Contributor role supporting back-end applications used for trading and post-trade activities across multiple asset classes, including equities, fixed income, derivatives, OTC products, and foreign exchange.

The role combines approximately 70% automation testing and 30% functional/manual testing.

The successful candidate will work within an established Python and Pytest automation framework, focusing on enhancing existing automation coverage, developing new test cases, validating back-end data, and supporting functional testing activities.

The candidate must be comfortable performing both automated and manual testing and should have a basic understanding of trading and the front-to-back trade lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will bring approximately 6-7 years of relevant experience, strong Python skills, excellent analytical capabilities, and the flexibility to work across automation, functional testing, data validation, and release-testing activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance automated test cases using Python and Pytest.
  • Expand test coverage within an established back-end automation framework.
  • Perform automation testing for applications supporting trading and post-trade processes.
  • Conduct functional and manual testing based on business and system requirements.
  • Validate back-end data inputs, outputs, transformations, and processing results.
  • Write and execute SQL queries to verify data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Perform smoke, regression, integration, functional, and user acceptance testing.
  • Analyze defects, identify root causes, and work with developers and business stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Review requirements and translate business scenarios into effective test cases.
  • Support testing across front-office, middle-office, and back-office workflows.
  • Build or maintain automated testing pipelines triggered by code commits, pull requests, merges, or other development events.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or comparable tools.
  • Work with applications and data hosted within cloud-based environments.
  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, product owners, and trading technology stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple testing responsibilities independently in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Approximately 6-7 years of experience in quality assurance, test automation, or software development in test.
  • Strong automation-testing mindset with the ability to work as an Individual Contributor.
  • At least 5 years of hands‑on Python experience, with a minimum of intermediate-level proficiency.
  • Strong hands‑on experience using the Pytest framework.
  • Experience developing automated test cases and enhancing existing Python/Pytest automation frameworks.
  • Previous experience testing back-end applications, services, APIs, databases, or batch-processing systems.
  • Strong SQL skills for querying databases and validating back-end data.
  • Experience performing data-validation testing across application inputs, outputs, and downstream systems.
  • Strong understanding of the software-testing lifecycle, including functional, automation, smoke, regression, integration, and UAT testing.
  • Experience with both automated and manual testing.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD concepts, tools, ecosystems, and best practices.
  • Experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or a comparable CI/CD platform.
  • Ability to build or maintain event‑driven automation pipelines triggered by commits, pull requests, or code merges.
  • Working knowledge of cloud ecosystems, cloud storage, and cloud-based application architecture.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Self-driven and comfortable managing multiple responsibilities within a collaborative team environment.

Capital Markets and Functional Knowledge

  • Previous exposure to trading, capital markets, or investment‑management environments.
  • Basic understanding of the front-office, middle-office, and back-office trade lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with trading or post‑trade activities across asset classes such as equities, fixed income, derivatives, OTC products, or foreign exchange.
  • Ability to understand functional requirements and translate trading or financial workflows into test scenarios.
  • General financial‑services knowledge is considered an asset.

Deep capital-markets expertise is not required; however, candidates must have enough trading or trade‑lifecycle exposure to understand the applications and business processes being tested.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Previous experience working formally as a Software Development Engineer in Test.
  • Experience with Gherkin or behavior‑driven development practices.
  • Experience with AWS; candidates with experience in other cloud platforms will also be considered.
  • Experience testing trading, portfolio‑management, investment‑management, or post‑trade systems.
  • Familiarity with financial products and asset‑class terminology.

We may use AI-enabled and/or automated tools to support parts of our recruitment process, including application screening, interview scheduling, and candidate communications. These tools are used to enhance consistency and efficiency. All hiring decisions involve human review and are not based solely on automated processing.

The Company offers a total rewards package in accordance with all applicable federal, provincial, and local laws and requirements. Benefit eligibility and offerings vary based on role, employment status, and work location. For contractor positions, benefits are limited to those entitlements and protections required by applicable law, which may include (as applicable) vacation pay, public holidays, leaves of absence, and other legally mandated benefits or payments.
