The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective operation, coordination, and continuous improvement of legal services across the enterprise. This role requires a strategic leader with a strong background in various legal disciplines, including corporate/commercial, insurance, regulatory, privacy, employment, litigation, intellectual property, technology, governance, transactions, and risk-related legal matters. The VP will also be tasked with leading a team of legal professionals, managing external counsel, and providing senior legal advice on a wide range of corporate and commercial matters. Applicants for the Vice President, Legal & General Counsel position at the company should hold an LLB, JD, or equivalent law degree and be a member in good standing with a Canadian law society or other applicable law society. A minimum of 12 years of professional legal experience, particularly in a complex corporate, insurance, financial services, or regulated environment, is required. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in leading legal teams, legal operations, and matter management, as well as experience in developing legal talent and building effective professional standards. Strong communication skills and the ability to advise senior leaders on legal matters are essential. Business, governance, risk management, compliance, insurance, or leadership education, such as an MBA, LLM, ICD.D, or equivalent senior business experience, is considered an asset.
