The Rotman Research Institute (RRI) is a premier international centre for the study of human brain function. The RRI is committed to advancing knowledge of healthy aging and age-related brain disorders, such as dementia, stroke, and sensory loss, by building on its foundational strengths in cognitive neuroscience and its leadership in the innovative use of informatics, electrophysiology, and neuroimaging technologies.

We are currently looking for a dedicated, hardworking, and organized individual to fill the position of Research Assistant. The Research Assistant will support research conducted under the Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging (CCNA), a national research initiative focused on improving the understanding, prevention, and treatment of neurodegenerative conditions associated with aging. This role is specifically tied to the COMPASS-ND study, a CCNA initiative that collects standardized clinical, cognitive, imaging, and biological data from adults across the cognitive spectrum to better characterize neurodegenerative disease and cognitive impairment, and to support high-quality, multi-site research.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working with participants and adhering to the various study protocol
  • Participant Recruitment & Engagement - contacting participants and study partners by phone and email, issuing follow-up communications and tracking all interactions, scheduling and organizing study visits.
  • Enter study data from paper source documents into LORIS, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Support COMPASS-ND study visits by assisting with delegated consent procedures, preparing visit materials, administering approved questionnaires, accurately recording source data, and monitoring participant safety during visits.
  • Maintain study logs, support REB submissions and updates, contribute to SOP and materials development for COMPASS-ND, and liaise with CCNA coordinating centres regarding data queries and biospecimen processes under supervision.

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • B.A. /B.Sc. in Psychology, Neuroscience or Health Sciences related discipline.
  • Minimum 6–12 months of research experience (can include honours thesis, volunteer RA, co-op, or employment) in a clinical, cognitive, or aging-related setting.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; able to manage multiple participants, visits, and deadlines with close attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with data entry systems (e.g., REDCap, LORIS) is an asset.
  • Prior experience with Alzheimer’s or Dementia is an asset but is not required.

Compensation:

At Baycrest, we take pride in ensuring our compensation structure is internally equitable and compliant with pay equity legislation. We believe compensation should be transparent, equitable, and reflective of your experience and growth. Our salary ranges are structured to support progression, from learning the role to demonstrating full proficiency.

The salary range for this position is $39,873 to $54,826 for Level I or $47,848 to $65,791 for level 2

Your placement within the target hiring range will depend on your job-related knowledge, skills, abilities, and relevant education and experience, as well as considerations such as market conditions and internal equity. The starting salary will be determined using these factors to ensure fairness and consistency across the organization.

The Rotman Research Institute is committed to fostering a climate of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. This commitment is central to, and mutually supportive of, our research excellence mandate. We welcome and respect the diversity of all members of our community, and we support an inclusive culture for our clients, families, research scientists, staff, and participants, trainees, volunteers, trustees, and partners.
