ethree Consulting is proud to partner with the Marine Environmental Observation Prediction & Response Network (MEOPAR) in their search for an Accountant.

MEOPAR is a not-for-profit network funded by the Strategic Science Fund (SSF) that is focused on supporting leading-edge research and connecting top researchers across Canada with highly qualified personnel partners and communities. Together our mission is to address the problems and opportunities of the changing marine funds innovative marine research overcomes barriers to collaboration and helps train the next generation of marine professionals.


What Youll Do

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration the Accountant plays a key role in supporting MEOPARs financial operations and overall sustainability. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records preparing financial statements and reports administering payroll and benefits and ensuring compliance with accounting standards regulatory requirements and internal policies. The role also contributes to budgeting audits financial analysis and ongoing improvements to accounting processes.As a trusted member of a small team the Accountant has the opportunity to take ownership of core financial functions and contribute directly to the integrity and effectiveness of financial operations. This role requires a strong attention to detail sound judgment and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for improvement.The successful candidate brings a commitment to accuracy accountability and continuous learning. By delivering timely and reliable financial information supporting compliance and strengthening internal processes the Accountant contributes to informed decision-making and the organizations long-term success.This role is ideal for someone who is motivated by meaningful work and wants to see the direct impact of their contributions.   • Accounting & Financial Operations: Play a key role in maintaining the organizations financial health by ensuring accurate and timely financial records including general ledger and journal entries account reconciliations and bank reconciliations. Support accounts payable and receivable functions managing invoices payments and aging reports while contributing to reliable financial operations that support informed decision-making.

  • Financial Reporting & Close Processes: Contribute to the preparation of monthly quarterly and annual financial statements delivering clear and accurate insights into organizational performance. Support month-end and year-end close processes including audit preparation ensuring financial data is complete well-documented and audit-ready.

  • Payroll Administration & Compliance: Take ownership of semi-monthly payroll processing ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time. Maintain payroll records across the employee lifecycle including onboarding changes and terminations while managing year-end reporting such as T4s and T4As. Ensure compliance with payroll legislation including deductions remittances and account reconciliations.

  • Benefits Administration & Employee Support: Support the delivery of employee benefit programs by managing enrollments updates reconciliations and RRSP contributions. Assist with employee offboarding processes including final pay Records of Employment (ROEs) and benefit terminations ensuring a seamless and professional employee experience.

  • Compliance & Regulatory Reporting: Ensure the organization meets all regulatory and legislative requirements by preparing and submitting government remittances and reports. Maintain accurate organized and audit-ready documentation that supports compliance and transparency.

  • Systems Continuous Improvement & Team Support: Support the ongoing enhancement of accounting systems processes and internal controls proactively identifying opportunities to improve efficiency accuracy and consistency. Work collaboratively across teams and provide additional support as needed contributing to a responsive solutions-focused environment.

What Youll Bring

  • Bachelors degree or certification in Accounting.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience preferably in nonprofit or government-funded organization.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards and practices including fund accounting.
  • Experience with payroll processing government remittances and employee benefits administration.
  • Experience preparing financial statements account reconciliations and supporting month-end and year-end close.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks Sage) and Microsoft Suite.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) is considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
