Description
Responsible for the day to day motivation of members of his crew in the safe and effective performance of their duties.
The weekend maintenance supervisor is responsible to initiate any activities that he see fit to promote this safe and effective performance.
Using good management skills, the supervisor will make assessment of his crew’ stability to complete the workload requested.
Since the most effective way to motive is by example, the supervisor would be ready to begin at starting time and would also be available continually to assist the technicians during the work day.
The supervisor would make recommendations to his Superintendent for the use of contractor personnel. He may be involved in directing the contractor personnel when they are in the mill.
The weekend supervisor will take a secondary role in the planning and scheduling of work for his crew. He will make recommendations to the planner for job sequencing and details.
He is only responsible for acquisition of material for jobs that are done on an emergency basis. The supervisor determined the craft / skill / crew for the job, he is not determining what craft manpower is required this has already been done by the planner.
The supervisor looks at the job and matches the skill level for several crafts and sends them all out to the job. The supervisors will feedback information required by the planner to monitor the planning and scheduling function for improvement.
The supervisor will take a lead role in identification of failures or of repetitive breakdowns. The supervisor will be responsible for the identification of the solution for the problems within his expertise (those not requiring major process of engineering changes).
He will utilize all of his crew in development of these solutions and feedback the requirements to the planner via the work order system for implementation.
The supervisor’s feedback to the work order system relating to cause of failure can help make adjustments in the preventive / predictive maintenance program, as well as give engineering some valuable feedback on design flaws.
