Job description

Location: Sarnia, ON (Primary Location)

Reports To: Project Quality Manager / Quality Lead

Contract Length: 24 months

Pay Rate: $80.00 - 85.00/hr

• Construction Managers and Front-Line Supervisors

• Commissioning Leads

• Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractors

• Fabricators, equipment vendors, and suppliers

Position Summary

The Quality Inspector is responsible for supporting quality assurance and quality control activities throughout the lifecycle of an industrial capital project. This role ensures that fabrication, construction, inspection, testing, and commissioning activities comply with applicable codes, standards, regulatory requirements, project specifications, and quality management systems.

The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, contractors, fabricators, and suppliers to maintain quality standards, identify and resolve non-conformances, and support the safe and successful delivery of project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with project teams, contractors, fabricators, equipment vendors, and suppliers.

• Promote and demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, serving as a positive role model for safe work practices and regulatory compliance.

• Monitor and support compliance with applicable quality, regulatory, and statutory requirements.

• Review vendor drawings and documentation for piping systems, pressure vessels, towers, drums, heat exchangers, structural steel modules, equipment packages, pumps, and related equipment.

• Review and assess fabrication and inspection documentation, including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), welding procedures, non-destructive examination (NDE) procedures, and quality manuals.

• Verify that contractors, vendors, and suppliers are adhering to approved quality programs, inspection plans, and project requirements.

• Witness hydrostatic testing and other required inspection activities at fabrication facilities.

• Identify, document, and promptly report defects, deficiencies, and deviations from established requirements.

• Visit fabrication shops, vendor facilities, and construction sites to witness inspection hold points and verify compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.

• Support implementation and oversight of construction surveillance programs to ensure contractor compliance during site activities.

• Prepare inspection reports summarizing observations, findings, and recommendations.

• Assist in the identification, investigation, and resolution of quality issues, non-conformances, and corrective actions.

• Troubleshoot and address inspection-related concerns throughout project execution.

• Coordinate with project teams to ensure readiness for the receipt, installation, and handling of modules, equipment, and lifting devices.

• Verify that fabricated equipment and lifting aids meet applicable industry and organizational quality standards.

• Review Inspection Release Notices (IRNs) and related documentation prior to equipment and module shipment.

• Coordinate quality inspection activities with engineering, procurement, construction, and quality stakeholders.

• Monitor and support the timely closeout of punch-list items and incomplete work activities.

Requirements

• Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in Quality Inspection, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or a related quality role.

• Proven experience executing project quality assurance and quality control programs within industrial projects.

• Experience applying quality requirements, codes, standards, and inspection practices in the oil and gas, petrochemical, energy, or heavy industrial sectors.

• Ability and willingness to travel to vendor facilities, fabrication shops, construction sites, and project locations as required.

Possession of at least one of the following certifications:

• CWB Level II

• API 510

• API 570

Preferred

• Experience using quality and project management systems such as Aconex, Hexagon Smart Completions, or similar platforms.

• Familiarity with refinery, petrochemical, or large industrial facility construction, fabrication, and maintenance activities.

• Strong understanding of industry codes, standards, inspection methodologies, welding processes, and quality management systems.
