Job description

Scott Mission is a Christian ministry serving people experiencing poverty in Toronto through food programs, shelter, health care, and long-term support. For over 80 years, we have walked alongside individuals and families—meeting immediate needs while helping people move forward with dignity, hope, and stability.

Our vision: Poverty in full retreat, flourishing for all, in Toronto and beyond.

Position Overview

Reports to: Chief Marketing & Communications Officer

Member of: Leadership team

The Director, Donor Growth & Journey leads the strategy and execution of Scott Mission’s donor growth programs—driving sustainable revenue by building pathways that attract, engage, and grow donor participation over time.

This role is accountable for shaping how individuals engage with Scott Mission throughout their donor relationship—from first gift through ongoing partnership—ensuring fundraising programs, campaigns, and donor touchpoints are intentional, relevant, and designed to strengthen engagement and inspire increased generosity over time.

The Director oversees Scott Mission’s mass fundraising portfolio—including donor acquisition, cultivation and renewal campaigns, and monthly giving—and is responsible for growing the performance, value, and long-term health of the mass donor segment.

Working in close partnership with the Development team, who lead relational fundraising programs (including major gifts, mid-level, and legacy giving), this role helps ensure a coordinated and consistent donor experience across fundraising channels and donor segments—aligning strategy, messaging, and engagement so donors experience one clear and connected relationship with Scott Mission.

Many of our team members stay for years, drawn by the chance to make a tangible difference in people’s lives—making this a meaningful and energizing opportunity to join Scott Mission and help shape what’s next.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as an active member of the Leadership Team, contributing to the development and execution of the organization’s strategic plan
  • Develop and lead Scott Mission’s donor growth strategy to achieve sustainable revenue growth across mass fundraising programs, including budget planning, forecasting, and accountability
  • Lead segmentation strategy and audience design to improve relevance, personalization, and engagement
  • Establish clear objectives, performance measures, and decision frameworks to optimize acquisition, retention, reactivation, and donor value
  • Translate donor insights, performance data, and market trends into actionable strategies that strengthen results over time
  • Lead the planning and design of clear pathways for donor progression—from initial engagement through to deeper relational giving
  • Partner closely with Development leaders to align fundraising approaches across donor segments and create a coherent donor experience across teams and channels
  • Partner with Brand Experience to ensure messaging aligns with Scott Mission’s voice, while optimizing for fundraising effectiveness
  • Build internal strategic fundraising capability, strengthening Scott Mission’s ability to set direction, prioritize investments, and lead execution across programs and partners
  • Build team capacity and confidence to move from externally dependent execution toward stronger internal ownership and leadership
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement
  • Establish clear planning rhythms, governance, and ways of working that increase coordination, accountability, and organizational effectiveness and efficiency
  • Lead and coordinate external agency and vendor relationships, setting clear strategic direction and ensuring external partners deliver against Scott Mission’s objectives and standards
  • Build an effective operating model across internal teams and external partners that enables integrated execution and reduces fragmentation
  • Evaluate partner performance and continuously improve how external expertise is leveraged

Data, Analytics & Optimization

  • Monitor campaign and channel performance through disciplined testing, learning, and optimization
  • Define and track key performance indicators including revenue, retention, acquisition, and donor lifetime value
  • Leverage data, analytics, and insight to inform decision-making and improve outcomes over time

What Success Looks Like in 12 Months

  • Mass fundraising revenue targets are achieved, with stronger confidence in forecasting and investment decisions
  • Donor engagement is coordinated across teams and channels, resulting in a clearer and more consistent experience of Scott Mission
  • External partners operate as integrated extensions of the team, with clear accountability and measurable contribution to results
  • A stronger internal fundraising capability is established, with the team demonstrating increased ownership, rigor, and data-informed decision-making

Qualifications & Experience

  • 8–10+ years in fundraising, marketing, or donor engagement roles
  • Strategic thinker with proven track record of driving revenue growth through direct response or mass fundraising programs
  • Experience leading and developing teams, including coaching and building capability over time
  • Strong collaboration skills across functions (Brand Experience, Development, leadership)
  • Strong understanding of donor lifecycle strategy, segmentation, and campaign performance
  • Experience managing multi-channel campaigns (email, direct mail, digital)
  • Strong analytical capability—applying data analysis, segmentation, experimentation, and performance measurement to strengthen donor growth and fundraising effectiveness
  • Experience working with CRM and marketing platforms to execute and optimize campaigns
  • Confident communicator—able to engage effectively with executives and cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated alignment with Scott Mission’s values, reflected in how you lead, influence, and build teams—earning trust, fostering collaboration, and expecting excellence

Great work happens in many places—and connection helps us do our best work. Scott Mission’s remote work policy provides the opportunity to work remotely, with a current expectation to be in office three days per week.

Compensation & Application

Salary: $110,000–$125,000 range, a competitive benefits plan, generous vacation, and access to ongoing professional and spiritual development

  • Scott Mission welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities
  • Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process
  • Employment is conditional to results of Police Reference Check and satisfactory references
