Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is seeking a highly motivated and scientifically driven Postdoctoral Fellow to join our growing research community. This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging researcher with expertise in epidemiology, health services research, public health, biostatistics, or a related discipline to lead impactful population-based and clinical research that informs healthcare practice, policy, and system improvement.

Working alongside physician investigators, clinicians, and interdisciplinary research teams, the successful candidate will play a central role in designing and conducting innovative research studies, analyzing complex health data, publishing high-impact findings, and securing future research funding. The successful fellow will conduct research in Urology under the direct supervision of Dr. Yasser Noureldin.

Key Responsibilities

Research Design & Implementation

  • Lead the design, coordination, and execution of epidemiologic and clinical research studies (observational and/or clinical trials) across health disciplines.
  • Maintains clear knowledge and understanding of research ethics, regulations and policies while remaining in full compliance with all applicable policies for ethical conduct to ensure adequate quality control.
  • Apply advanced epidemiologic methods for patient recruitment and/or data analysis derived from administrative health databases, clinical registries, and/or patient cohorts.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of study protocols, ethics submissions, and data-sharing agreements.

Data Analysis & Interpretation

  • Conduct statistical analyses using software such as R, SAS, or STATA.
  • Interpret findings, prepare reports, and develop visualizations for knowledge translation.
  • Ensure data quality, reproducibility, and compliance with research ethics and privacy regulations.

Knowledge Dissemination & Publication

  • Draft and co-author peer-reviewed manuscripts, conference abstracts, and presentations.
  • Support the preparation of research summaries, policy briefs, and lay summaries for stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the writing of grant proposals, funding applications, and research progress reports.

Collaboration & Mentorship

Engage in multidisciplinary collaboration with clinicians, research staff, statisticians, and external partners.

  • Provide mentorship and training to research assistants, students, and residents on epidemiologic and statistical methods.
  • Participate in research team meetings, seminars, and conferences to present work and foster collaboration.

Program Development & Leadership

  • Support strategic growth of research programs through innovative study proposals and collaborative initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable data infrastructure and analytic frameworks for population health research.

Qualifications

  • MD or PhD in Epidemiology, health services research, public health, biostatistics or a related field
  • Proven experience designing and conducting clinical research.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with statistical analysis and interpretation of health data.
  • Experience working with large administrative or clinical datasets is highly desirable.
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and scientific communication skills.
  • Experience in health research, public health, or population health is an asset.
