Job description

HOURS - 37.5 hours per week. Shifts are Monday to Friday (9:00am to 5:00pm) with one late shift (11:00am to 7:00pm) per week on a set schedule and one Saturday shift worked per month. To learn more about Good Shepherd, visit our website at opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - Reaching HomeHow You Will Make an ImpactThe successful candidate will extend our mission to residential and non-residential clients through the provision of respectful and appropriate housing support services. This may include case management, crisis intervention and supportive counseling. The incumbent must be able to work independently in a challenging and rewarding values-based environment.Support service users in conducting a housing search including accompaniment into the community, filling out rental applications, and offering advocacy where requiredRemain current on relevant community resources and to develop and maintain professional relationships with individuals and organizations within the community who provide complementary servicesLiaise with community landlords and other housing providers to develop partnerships and build an inventory of rental unitsMediate housing related matters between landlords and tenants to support housing sustainabilityCoordinate finances, lease signings, move in inspections, repairs and maintenance to prepare for new tenancyWork in collaboration with shelter staff, housing first programs and community partners to develop housing plans that support rapid exit from homelessness.Assist service users in navigating various governmental and non-governmental systemsSupport service users in building both formal and informal support networks that will assist them in maintaining housing and enhanced quality of lifeAssist in developing a plan within a brief intervention approach that decreases the likelihood of a future or recurrent housing crises including assisting with connections to other servicesAttend weekly case conference to share housing information and resources with shelter staffObserve all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulationsWhat You'll Bring to Our TeamPost-secondary education in Social Service or a related field is requiredMinimum 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in Social Services or a related fieldHave demonstrated knowledge of Housing First Framework and the ability to assist service users with system navigationHave strong understanding of and experience working with a range of issues impacting youth, women, and families including homelessness, violence against women and children, poverty, mental illness and substance useKnowledge of or willingness to learn about the housing system in the City of Hamilton, the Residential Tenancies Act, Landlord and Tenant Board, and the Ontario Human Rights Code requiredCommitment to and experience working within a person-centered, trauma-informed, harm reduction and housing first frameworkExcellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, verbal and written communication, time management and organization, and ability to prioritize workloadAbility to work cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary teamCPR certification or willingness to be certified is requiredValid G license requiredFluency in a 2nd language is an assetCommitted to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good ShepherdWhat We OfferBe a part of a caring TEAM THAT SUPPORTS OUR LOCAL COMMUNITYSupport for continuing EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTStaff recognition programs along with access to self-care supports and EMPLOYEE/FAMILY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP)POSITIVE and ENCOURAGING atmosphereMake a difference and provide HOPEExtended Health BenefitsJoin our team and be part of a group that values hard work, dedication, and the importance of maintaining a positive environment for everyone.Good Shepherd, a ministry of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God, is an equal opportunity employer operating within an anti-racist and anti-oppression framework.
