Our Story & Purpose:

We’re Vancity, a member-owned credit union built on the principles of inclusion and social justice. Since 1946, our relentless commitment to these values has helped us challenge the status quo and break down barriers. We’ve made bold commitments to become net-zero by 2040 across all mortgages and loans, and we’re actively pursuing strategies in Indigenous banking and financial resilience for our members.

As the largest private sector Living Wage Employer in Canada, we’re proud to be consistently recognized as one of the country’s Top Employers. If you’re ready to join our team of 2,300 diverse individuals, access competitive rewards and benefits, and be part of a greater movement - apply today!

Your Role in Supporting Our Members:

As a Senior Consultant, Model Validation, you will provide advanced, independent oversight of complex models used across Vancity, ensuring they are sound, well‑governed, and aligned with regulatory expectations and our Model Risk Management Framework. You’ll play a critical role in validating models across credit, fraud, capital, liquidity, ALM, and allowances, offering effective challenge to model development teams and translating complex quantitative findings into clear, data‑driven insights for senior leaders. We’re seeking a highly analytical professional with strong model risk expertise who can influence decision‑making and strengthen Vancity’s risk governance maturity.

This is a Full‑time, Permanent role based at our Vancity head office and will report directly to the Director, Model Risk Management. Our head office is based in Vancouver, with a hybrid working model and flexibility for candidates based in British Columbia or Ontario. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on‑site for events and business demands.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Leading independent validation of complex models across retail and non‑retail portfolios
  • Assessing model data, methodology, assumptions, limitations, and conceptual soundness
  • Confirming model appropriateness for intended use and regulatory alignment
  • Providing effective challenge and data‑driven recommendations to model development teams
  • Communicating model risk findings clearly to senior management and governance committees
  • Identifying systemic model risk issues and influencing risk acceptance decisions
  • Supporting model risk governance activities including inventory maintenance and validation guidelines
  • Collaborating across Finance, Treasury, Risk, and business partners to improve data quality and controls
  • Providing subject matter expertise on model risk management best practices and regulatory expectations

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • A university graduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of 8+ years of experience in model validation, model risk management, or quantitative risk analytics within financial services
  • Demonstrated experience validating models across areas such as credit risk, capital, liquidity, ALM, fraud, or allowances
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory expectations and industry best practices related to model risk management
  • Proven ability to assess complex quantitative methodologies and translate findings into actionable insights
  • Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and providing effective challenge in a constructive manner
  • Professional designations such as FRM, CFA, PRM, or similar are considered strong assets
  • Advanced proficiency with statistical or analytical tools including R, Python and SAS used in model development and validation

Extra Skills That Set You Apart:

  • Experience working within a regulated Canadian financial institution or credit union environment
  • Experience supporting audits or regulatory examinations related to model risk
  • Experience working across all 3 lines of defense in Model Risk Management i.e Model Development, Validation and Audit.

You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:

  • Analytical – Able to rigorously evaluate complex quantitative models and identify risk implications.
  • Credible – Trusted to provide independent, well‑reasoned challenge to senior stakeholders.
  • Collaborative – Effective at working across Finance, Treasury, Risk, and business teams.
  • Clear Communicator – Skilled at translating technical analysis into actionable insights.
  • Purpose‑Driven – Motivated by contributing to Vancity’s long‑term financial sustainability and resilience.

We value lived experience, so if you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you feel your skills don't perfectly align with those listed.

What You’ll Earn:

The salary range for this role is $96,600 to $125,100 per annum. Base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
