Job description

About the Role

As an Underwriting Analyst, you'll play a vital role in supporting our Property insurance underwriting operations, with a focus on International Programs. You'll be the operational backbone that keeps the underwriting process running smoothly — processing assignments with precision, coordinating across global teams, and providing critical administrative and technical support to Property Underwriters and Client Managers.

Your work will have a direct and measurable impact on productivity, process efficiency, timeliness, profitability, and the overall accuracy of the underwriting process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and manage underwriting assignments accurately and within established turnaround standards, ensuring data integrity at every step
  • Coordinate closely with underwriting teams, on-shore and off-shore support functions, and cross-functional partners including Products, Finance, and Claims
  • Support international placement needs for Regions outside North America requiring local coverage, as well as North America teams placing coverage internationally
  • Communicate professionally with Underwriters and Brokers via telephone, email, and in-person interactions, delivering consistently high-quality service
  • Conduct preliminary deal analysis and prepare account data for review by Underwriters and Client Managers
  • Review and interpret complex source documents from external customers, determining appropriate next steps and composing business correspondence as needed
  • Collaborate on the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures, system improvements, and process change testing and piloting
  • Build subject matter expertise in International Business processes, tools, and systems — serving as a go-to resource and coach for colleagues
  • Generate and verify predefined business reports, maintaining a high level of competency across complex systems and workflows
  • Proactively problem-solve to meet and exceed client and broker expectations, while adhering to internal standards and controls
  • Identify and recommend process and system improvement opportunities, contributing to ongoing operational reviews and task analyses
  • Follow up with Underwriters and stakeholders on outstanding items and documentation to ensure timely resolution
  • Participate in meetings, seminars, and training programs to stay current with international regulations and continuously develop your skills
  • Contribute to special projects as assigned, supporting broader business and operational initiatives

About the Team

The International Operations Business Services team is a critical enabler of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' global underwriting success. We sit at the intersection of local and international insurance placement, supporting regions across the globe who need to place local coverage, as well as North America teams placing coverage internationally.

Our team thrives on high collaboration — working closely with underwriting, client management, finance, claims, and offshore support teams to ensure seamless, accurate, and timely operations. We are a team of subject matter experts who take pride in operational excellence, continuous improvement, and delivering top-notch service to our underwriters, brokers, and clients. If you enjoy working in a dynamic, globally connected environment where your contributions truly matter, you'll feel right at home here.

About You

You are a highly organized and detail-focused professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume operational environment. You bring a quality-control mindset, a collaborative spirit, and the ability to navigate complexity across multiple systems, teams, and time zones. You take ownership of your work, communicate clearly, and are always looking for ways to improve the processes around you.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • 2–4 years of experience in insurance operations, underwriting support, or International Programs — with a solid understanding of property insurance workflows
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint, with the ability to manage data and reporting across multiple platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and follow structured operational processes, procedures, and controls — with experience managing multi-system workflows simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with globally distributed teams, brokers, underwriters, and stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify discrepancies, assess impacts, and escalate issues appropriately

These are additional nice to haves:

  • Experience with audit readiness and documentation discipline, including data integrity and operational controls awareness
  • Familiarity with multinational programs, local offices, and international regulatory frameworks
  • Process improvement mindset — experience identifying and implementing operational efficiencies
  • Ability to support system and process testing, including piloting operational change initiatives
  • Multi-system coordination skills, including workflow dependency management across complex operational environments
  • Comfort with adapting to evolving technologies and changing priorities in a dynamic global organization
  • Strong customer service orientation with a track record of exceeding client and broker expectations

The base salary hiringrange for thisexisting position is CAD $75,000 - $92,000. The specific base salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.
